UPDATE! Limassol -Approx 0900 hrs.
A jet travelling at high altitude and at high speed on a South to North flight path suddenly went into a 180 Deg LH high rate turn. Turning circle maybe 2-3km. Definitely not a passenger aircraft otherwise they would be wiping the vomit off the walls, ceiling and floor. So the assumption has to be a military aircraft and by its direction of travel, a 'coalition' aircraft?
Given you advisory ...... it looks as if the coalition could be probing the Russian/Syrian defence radar ....... maybe the intruder suddenly found that HE had been locked on? In this case, does your above advisory apply?
Well this coalition aircraft happens to be in RoC Airspace. The RoC being a friendly nation, it wouldn't matter and they would be communicating with ATC in any event. It could also be an Israeli Aircraft. They have been coming across to Cyprus regularly and have been known to fly over the occupied areas from time to time.
If it were in Syrian Airspace, the Russians can do what they like but we won't like any locks on our aircraft.
In all likelihood, the Russians and Americans should be discussing all the technicalities if indeed a Russian Jet was shot down. As I said before, you would want to hope so.
