Not totally relevant here, I know, having mentioning the anti-Daesh resistance in Mosul, I can’t resist posting the following:

The man shaved his beard and then stood in the street smoking a cigarette in broad daylight - two major offenses in the so-called caliphate of the Islamic terror group ISIS.

Before too long, the group’s religious police, the Hisba, came and put the man in their car and drove away. In the car, the man pulled out a weapon and killed them all. He then escaped in the car of a friend that had escorted him on his mission.

This Hollywood-like plot was recently played out for real in Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, which has been in the hands of ISIS since June 2014. It was reported by Mosul Eye, a historian who blogs in deep secret from inside the city.

Perhaps reports like the above have to be taken with a pinch of salt because there is no really reliable news from Mosul at the moment, but if it is true, then ... WOW!

Yes wow! A very brave man.

It might be very true because in adversity come some very amazing superhuman feats of valor.

And what of the 13 million Sunnis now, Allah only knows.

This is going to get very rough and very bloody for Iran, Syria and Russia. Lucky the coalition didn't send Ground Troops. now the entire Arab World is going to be against them and the Gulf States are going to be the other factor and they are going to be sending Billions worth in arms - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Bahrain etc

Good morning Vietnam!

Several years ago some people who appeared to be in the know were saying that Assad released those Islamists from prison (and reputedly dangerous patients from mental hospitals) and then just sat back, laughing his head off, knowing that he only had to bide his time. I think perhaps he has decided now that the time has come. After all, with waves of Syrian refugees now arriving in Europe, this is bound to tip the scales in favour of those who say let's just restore peace and order in Syria, and if that means Assad, so be it. After all, the option of bringing in allies Russia and Iran always existed. Perhaps he was just waiting for the right moment to call them in. I think this is a bit like a game of poker and the US and the rest of the West will probably not call Russia and Iran's bluff and let them get on with it. The alternative course of action risks, as you say, igniting world war. It's not the end I would wish to see, but this is how I see things stacking up.

The Syrians are gradually becoming the next Palestinians, unfortunately.

...i ask the same question about the Russian people.

Perhaps GR you can show the same open dissent in Russian Society, the same conflict which boils in American society; it should be easy for you i'm guessing, you are good at it, given their Free Press.

...as a Cypriot (as a Human being), i suppose dialog is important to you; balance, and reason, rather than myth. I hope that you are helpful. It would make your postings from RT at least, more real.

I choose the American Government any day over Putin and twice on Sunday.

So would 99.99% of Americans.

Russia is a nothing with a crumbling economy, no free press or Bill of Rights. Sorry, but USA is far more progressed than Russia is thanks to Putin.

Obama is trustworthy and honest. Putin is a mafioso.

You should ask the same question to Cypriots. Who would they prefer? Obama or Putin? My guess is you would be running towards Obama because you know full well that you would never have the same quality of life or freedoms with Putin. You know it too even though you will never admit it because you are too stubborn.

While you're at it, it would hardly be surprising to me that millions of Russians would prefer Obama too but are too scared to admit it because Putin's cronies might whack them in the streets which is not unusual at all if you're a Journalist or pro Ukrainian criticizing Russia's criminality in the Ukraine crisis.
