I used to take pride in my compatriots being conservative and family oriented people with a conscience and intellect to know right from wrong but the new generations have unfortunately slipped away into the depravity and decadence of the filthy West.

Joining the EU has been catastrophic for Cyprus on every level including political, cultural, and financial to the point where the once uniquely beautiful Cypriot culture and character is no more!

Many decades of students studying overseas have also been a steady source importing filth into Cypriot society and the delays in establishing local tertiary institutions have cost us dearly.

Increased inter-racial marriages and the influx of foreigners have also added to the destruction of Cypriot society.

Today as a society we’ve regressed to the animal level where nobody gives a shit about anyone else and nothing is sacred anymore… not even our innocent children!

It saddens me that my love for these once beautiful people is gradually depleting and getting replaced with contempt.

I won't click on your link, Lordo, because I don't like the title visible on the address. But, I would venture from what's been said above that we have to factor in the demographics that there are some 80,000 Brits in Cyprus (some known pedophiles) and plenty of other nationalities swarming over too. It's the price of multiculturalism as Kurupetos has identified for other matters, I suppose.

A typical racist response - blaming foreigners in General and the Brits in particular - as far as I know the few who have so far been detected are mostly Cypriot and I wonder what contact, if any, they have had with the alleged known pedophiles claimed to among any of the immigrant community in Cyprus - and I do not exclude that there are some, as It is universal condition both in terms of ethnos and in terms of time. Pederasty existed in Ancient Greece but they did not have the cameras to collect images nor the internet to spread them.

Indeed if you want to look at the origin of a liking for child porn, look no further than the home, where it is likely related to Child abuse, which most commonly involves friends and relatives of the victim, so do not be surprised if at least one of the close relatives , even a parent of a pedophile may themselves have such tendencies, have indulged in Child abuse and/or may themselves be the victim of child abuse.

You will likely find it has always been more common in Cyprus than you think,(just as in the UK) it is just that it is now being talked about a bit more. Mr Lefkaritis may well be the tip of an Iceberg...

Most of the filth has already existed mate. Bar some.

Following the economic crisis and banking meltdown that almost destroyed CY...... and for the first time in CY history, people 'politicians' that were deemed connected and untouchable are held accountable and brought to justice.
This has had a knock on effect for the public in other areas of society ie Animal cruelty, spousal abuse, property fraud... etc etc

CY has entered a new era where everything is reported and the state is taking action.

Unfortunately the media has jumped onto the bandwagon and in some cases over exaggerates the stats.
And yes, I won't be silenced on this one, since the influx of foreign nationals from the 3rd world, other crimes have increased as well.

I doubt these things are recent phenomenon, the atmosphere nowadays is more open and receptive to acknowledging child abuse. A couple of decades ago a 14 year old Cypriot girl became pregnant..and as it turned out the girls father was the daddy...the daddy said he didn't know anything about it other then he masturbated in bath water and his daughter went in after him and took a bath...people believed it and the father never was prosecuted..
