I doubt these things are recent phenomenon, the atmosphere nowadays is more open and receptive to acknowledging child abuse. A couple of decades ago a 14 year old Cypriot girl became pregnant..and as it turned out the girls father was the daddy...the daddy said he didn't know anything about it other then he masturbated in bath water and his daughter went in after him and took a bath...people believed it and the father never was prosecuted..

We do have to wonder at which point exactly the culmination of our unique and lovely Cypriot culture begins and when exactly it ends. Did our culture start degrading when Richard the Lionheart sacked our island and sold it to the Franks? Did our culture start degrading when The Venetians tricked their way into owning the island and tried to downplay Orthodox christianity? Did our culture start degrading when the Ottomans forced their way in and for centuries butchered anyone who dared to even raise a finger in condemnation?

I must remind the people who hold my previous post in contempt that the average life expectancy of a human being up to 1950 was 48. I also have to remind the 'shocked' posters that families were generally more concerned about marrying their daughter into a better future than marrying her with someone she would fall in love with. In fact, I'm sure that before 1897 people who were poor would try to marry their daughters away as soon as possible as a survival tactic. What happens in Turkish mountain villages today was happening in Cyprus just 100 to 200 years ago simply because of the low standard of living and immense poverty.

I used to take pride in my compatriots being conservative and family oriented people with a conscience and intellect to know right from wrong but the new generations have unfortunately slipped away into the depravity and decadence of the filthy West.

Joining the EU has been catastrophic for Cyprus on every level including political, cultural, and financial to the point where the once uniquely beautiful Cypriot culture and character is no more!

Many decades of students studying overseas have also been a steady source importing filth into Cypriot society and the delays in establishing local tertiary institutions have cost us dearly.

Increased inter-racial marriages and the influx of foreigners have also added to the destruction of Cypriot society.

Today as a society we’ve regressed to the animal level where nobody gives a shit about anyone else and nothing is sacred anymore… not even our innocent children!

It saddens me that my love for these once beautiful people is gradually depleting and getting replaced with contempt.
