When I first joined the CYF, I was astounded to say the least at the antipathy and resentment held by some fellow Cypriots in regards to Israel.

I entered into many tempestuous debates with those that saw I Israel as Cyprus's adversary, reiterating time and time again that Cyprus needs powerful and influential allies and not ineffectual connections that could offer Cyprus nothing politically or financially.

I also stated that for the interests of Cyprus I would go to bed with the devil, any devil, and was severely rebuked by some whose love of nations futile to Cyprus's interests, blinded their logic.

I'm extremely happy to see that at long last Cyprus is making friends with Israel and alliances concerning financial as well as strategic interests.

On one occasion, some years back, armed with a spray can , I erased an offensive graffiti on a wall in a busy Limassol road
that some moron had written "F..K ISRAEL, F..K TURKEY, F..K THE USA.

Long and prosperous may this new found friendship last.
