I should also note that the result for Greece is the average of all the Greek regions and if Cyprus was counted as a Greek region then the average result for Greece would have been even closer to what we have in Cyprus. Another thing to note is that several regions in other countries have greater differences between them than what Cyprus has with other Greek regions. For example there is a 60 points difference between Sicily and North Italy, and 56.5 points difference between North Germany and South Germany. Similar differences between regions of France, or between regions of Spain. So if Cyprus was part of Greece there would be nothing strange. If you want "strange" differences you need to look for example at the 89.5 points of difference between Italian island Sardinia and North Italy, or the the 86 points of difference between Corsica and Brittany (both part of France).
It's good.
Don't worry about any DNA. Let's look at behaviour first and foremost of a great number of Greeks.
The kind of behaviour that makes them think that they are entitled to a Public Sector job. Yes the public sector is bloated outside all proportions. It's partly responsible for the current crisis.
What about their belief in big pensions, free Nedical, free Education as if Greece is some cash cow that can afford all that. Why do we believe we are entitled to all this?
Some countries provide all that stuff and so they should because they can afford it. These countries have big industry, solid employment (hence tax revenue), or are fortunate to be blessed with resources, minerals and oil.
Yes I believe in a safety net such as pensions, unemployment benefits and I also support free health and education, particularly for famines and the poor.
Greece can't afford any of it but it should offer what it can to those who have a need for it. As for the rest, bloody work and pay for it because Greece can't afford the debt anymore.
Even in Greece's current state, many think they are entitled to be offered jobs. The 50,000 who lost their jobs from the enforced austerity have been reinstated. How the hell is the country going to be able to get on its feet so that maybe one day it could actually afford to offer people everything they need?
The young are very hard working. Many have jobs on minimum wage and generally a great attitude and I feel sorry for them because you can't have them working like that forever.
Something has gone drastically wrong GIG. You bloody well know it.
The question is WHY? And don't blame the banks because all they did is bankroll the state. As if no one believed that one day the chickens will not come home to roost.
