No 9 on my Rip off list.
Vehicle Insurance Companies.
I have had a long driving career, both personal car and business vehicles.
Over the years I have never had a claim either personal or business, yet year by year MY insurance PREMIUM GOES UP.
About a year ago my car, whilst in the care of my son, was stolen, it was a Friday afternoon. Naturally I first called the Police to report the theft and then the Insurance company, it was late afternoon. About an hour or less the police rung me and informed me that the car was found, not far from where it was stolen. It was approaching closing time at 5pm so I made my way to where the car was and recovered it.
I drove home, well after 7pm by the time I reached home.
Saturday morning I tried calling the insurance company but of course being a Saturday their offices were closed.
Sunday I drove my car, did some food shopping and visited my older brother for Sunday lunch.
Monday morning drove to work, switched on my PC and checked, as I always do each morning, my emails.
An email was there sent on Friday late afternoon, acknowledging my reported theft and informing me that my insurance was cancelled, standard procedure I belive when a vehicle is reported stolen. Fair enough I thought, so I called the insurance at 9 am and informed them that my car was found and that no damage occurred, a joyrider no doubt.
The insurance informed me that as my insurance was cancelled it now had to be re instated and that there was a reinstated charge of £63.00 !!!
I was not amused but I ended up paying since the insurance would not otherwise be re instated .
I protested vigorously also expressing my dismay that on collecting my car on Friday night and driving it on Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning I was not insured.
I followed it up with a very stern email and managed to recover just under £40 from the ludicrous charge made earlier of £63.
The law of course is on the side of Insurance companies, pay up or commit an offence.
