There is no doubt the mainland Greeks are highly intelligent people.

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

Nobody has emerged from the entire Balkans (let alone Greece) in the last 100-200 years with a worthwhile discovery or anything that could be even remotely called “genius”!

This is one thing I have noticed about Greeks. They have unusually very unrealistically high opinions of themselves as if they still believe that when they created this and that the rest were swinging from tree to tree.

Instead, they should come back down to earth a bit and really look at how some of these other countries operate and why they are so successful at various things and try to emulate them but on a smaller scale.

One thing you will notice is that they have great universities so Education is very important. It needs a lot of investment and maybe they really should try and headhunt a few of the Greek Academics from the Diaspora because those in Greece are just pathetic and just think they are good whereas in reality they are nobodies.

You should see the idiots ride on their bikes breaking every single road rule there is in front of cops even without wearing helmets. They think they are cool but it is friggin downright stupid because they could kill themselves, end up in a chair for life or with some massive head trauma, or worse still, their stupidity could wipe out innocent road users.

I had a go at a police officer about this. I told them to get off their lazy arses and do something about this nonsense and was not interested. I then told him no wonder the country is up shit creek and he threatened to arrest me the bastard!

The stupid copper probably got pissed at me because I had a heavy accent and how dare I jump on my high horse!

When you drive through Greece, you regularly come across these roadside shrines, usually with an oil lamp and a photo of those who died there. Around some bends, it's not unusual to see 3 or 4 of them in very close proximity.

My wife noticed one with a photo of a family inside (great spotting because I never even new there were photos inside them). 2 parents and 2 young children.

You would think the cops are sick and tired to attend these gruesome accidents and would therefore have major crackdowns.

It might not be relevant but I think it is because if the State is incapable to maintain some order on the roads in the interests of public safety, then you imagine their shortfalls in everything else including the management of State Finances and the Economy.

If the Police were out and about cracking down, I also believe they could raise many millions for the public purse as well as potentially save many lives and medical expence for other injured victims.

At the moment, the roads are a free for all. Everyone does what they want when they want.

I still am full of praise for Greece. But let's not kid ourselves that they are the best race on the planet like Pyro suggested.

Most are however, very nice people. They are extremely warm people and also quite different to other people both in good and bad ways. They are in the most part extremely hard working, but right now opportunities for the young are rare if not non-existent due to the current situation.

Most of the events are beyond the control of the populace.

Surely everyone knows that WE, the Cypriots are by far the best race in the world, a few rotten apples I agreeeeee

I have known a number of Greeks go through the British University system and they are by far several-fold more intelligent than the average British university student.

What holds Greeks back, after graduation (although many have made significant advances), is family loyalty and the desire to be moral and evaluative.

Brits might soar ahead, but not because they are more intelligent but simply because they are indifferent to others.

Sorry Pyro but the Pap test might be ok but when a country has a Space Program and is building things like the 787 Dreamliner, then I think Greece is way out of its depth!

The differences between Greece and countries like the USA is stark - like night and day.

Firstly, the Anglo Saxons/Germans/Irish have a different character to what we see in Southern Europe. They don't rock the boat for starters, work as a united team, and when the shit hits the fan they roll up their sleeves.

You just have to look at all the innovation, important discoveries coming from these countries, inventions, technology etc. there is a reason why they are at the top and why the Germans nearly took over the world some 70 years ago.

I was not comparing countries per se. How could I compare Greece of 10 million to the USA of 250 million??
I was comparing people.
The Greeks do excel outside of Greece and they usually climb well above average even to the top compared to the locals. I won't be surprised if Greeks have top positions in Nasa as well.
