Legal questions about self defense sprays

Postby Robinjoeh » Sat Jul 04, 2015 11:26 am

Hello.

Is it legal to carry and use OC or pepper spray in emergency defense, just like it is in many other European countries?

Thanks.

I would just go to the nearest police station and ask.

Yes, that is a good suggestion. But it saves some time asking here first, in case someone knows.

Oh, really? I have had good usage of it in the past - but I understand it is very different in Cyprus. However, that depends on where you live. On some places (almost everywhere) there are lots of tourists, and to be honest - I have already been involved in one situation here.

Still doesn't answer my question, I asked if it's legal or not - not if people here are carrying such gadgets.

Thanks.

It is NOT legal to carry such items.

They would be considered as a firearm. You will get into serious trouble if stopped or even in the unlikely event you had to use it.

Unless you are involved with mafiosi type people, you should not really have a need for such an item.

Right, do you have any source on this information, or it is just your own knowledge?

Lets not assume somebody is a drug dealer because they are asking a simple question - that makes yourself look stupid. I have been able to interrupt fights several times during my life, and in case it goes out of control, it is good to have some sort of backup. I wont just stand there and look if somebody gets beaten right on the street when I'm going to pass by. This happend in Cyprus a few days ago, that's why I'm asking this question now.
