We'll talk again in 2 years time.

Everyone agrees it will have only one serious negative impact on Cyprus: That Greece will "steal" at least half of our tourism because of very low prices.

Btw if anyone thinks they have not ALREADY DESTROYED us in Cyprus he is dreaming.
Gone are the days...
(official) Unemployment rates are practically the same, salaries in the real economy dropped to nearly half, the only ones who do well are the public servants (sucking the money they get from Troika) and the Bank employees sucking people's deposits.
Sure the Government will go out in the markets soon after having practically bent down everybody on new taxes.
How about the huge depts of the Banks, BOC was loaded with billion already when is she ever going to make it?

Overseas holidays don’t work like that.

People choose a destination (country) *FIRST* and then try to reduce their expenses by shopping around for tickets and hotels.

But nobody thinks… “Let’s go to Bhutan because their economy just collapsed so it should be dirt cheap!”

Not really. 70% buy packages from tourist agents and the price pays an important role.Suppose you were a British and you were offered holidays at a cosmopolitan Greek island at half price than holidays at Ayia Napa. What would you choose?
The 'rich" yes they choose country first. Usually a country they never visited.

you can only compare like for like, given the choice of cyprus and greace, greace was always cheaper anyway and now it will be doubly cheaper. but now the terggs are ready to kill two birds with one stone.

They don't have to print drachmas. They can carry on using the Euro, no matter what. There are many countries, for example, that use the American dollar and are not in the USA. It would be a similar scenario except this would be the first time a non-Euro-zone country would use the Euro - but more so, I don't believe they can be forced out of the Euro-zone nor does the ECB want to force them out of the euro-zone, but of course they will use this scaremongering to get a "Yes" vote out of frightened people. Disgusting tactics.

So where are these Euros going to come from if Greece formally returns to the Drachma but does not have the new currency, the ECB won't supply them. In the faltering Greek economy people will be tempted to hang on to the strong currency, unfortunately the economy will grind to a halt.

I would never holiday in a volatile country and I don’t care how cheap it is.

If you want cheap go to Mali.

As a consequence of the tragic event in Tunisia it's likely that tourists will avoid Muslim countries, it's likely they will feel safer in places like Greece and Cyprus, I know where I won't be taking my next Mediterranean holiday.
