Postby cypezokyli » Sun Dec 18, 2005 12:12 pm

the new book of the tc reporter Sevgul Uludag with title "the oysters who lost theri pearls - untold stories for the misssing persons the mass graves and memories from the past of cyprus" which is writen in greek, will be presented by its writer on "dimodiografiki estia" RIK avenue, 18 Dec at 19:00

the book has three chapters. the first dealing with mising persons and mass graves from both sides. the second concerning the "orphans of nationalism" and people who contribute in the struggle for peace. it also gives a description of the north. the third chapters contains nostalgic articles about the past.

the book was published in turkish in september and is already a best seller. the english version of it is prepared.

parashos will present the book

the original articles were published in yeniduzen , and alitheia .

a real first bicommunal book?
mooving towards healing the wounds?

just a comment on this:
in s.africa , chile , and namimbia truth commissions were set up. different situations but in all three attrocities were commited. amnesty was granted to all those people who would admit their crimes and give information concerning missing people. a good way to accept, apologise, heal the wounds and wove forward. is it time to set up truth commission in cyprus?

enjoy the book

Look forward to the English version coming out. I too think a comity should be set up. I am going to South Africa in March and will make a special effort to see the real situation there. I hope that it is going to be a positive one.

hamit, the son of tjemaliye (from tohni), called her one last time from the brokeen window : "mother, come and kiss me for the last time. mother come and kiss me for one last time" tjmaliye went close to the window and kissed her son. her beautiful son. he was just 19 years old in august 1974 when cyprus was turned into a blood bath. he was in tohni just like all the other kids of 14-15 years old. they gothered them in two buses to take them later in the place of execution. "mother come and kiss me for one last time

"dont do that, dont do it" kept shouting the judge from yialousa takis hatjinikolaou , when he was watching themurderers killing the children from tohni. those who carried those words to sevgul say that they remember takis screaming "dont do that, dont do that" as he was tortured and killed.
there is a lake at galatia and according to the inhabidants of the village 80 gc were burried around that lake. the village keeps this secret for the last 32 years. everybody knows, but noone speaks, the only who spoke is the writer...

cypezokyli, do you have the book? When she refers to 1974, does she keep it 50%-50%, or it can be seen from the book that the Greek Cypriot victims were way more?

i hope that it will be sent to me in a couple of weeks

why is it that you are missing the point piratis.
why is it important to mention explicitly that there were more gc victims?
its just a fact... and besides being a fact, doesnt mean that the pain is different.
its the pain of cyprus. a stupid number is not important.

It is extremely important.
During world war 2 Germany was one of the countries with the most civilian casualties. The civilian German victims were as innocent as the Jews.
Should we now equate the millions of Jews burned by the German aggressors with Germany's civilian victims?

Should we equate the 1000s of Greek Cypriot victims and the ethnic cleansing that was performed by Turkey with some 100s TC victims?

This is a distortion of the truth my friend.

doesnt mean that the pain is different

No, the pain is always the same. It is also the same when people die in car accidents, from diseases etc.

its the pain of cyprus. a stupid number is not important.

This is not a novel. It is a book that I suppose records historical facts. in History numbers and the true facts are extremely important and not "stupid" as you call them. If this book gives the impression that the number of casualties on both sides was the same, then it might be interesting to read, but it will be inaccurate and deceiving from a historical point of view.

What we are saying now of course is totally theoretical since non of us has read the book. I didn't say anything against the particular author. My comment was a general one directed to the ones who try to equate the disaster that happened to the GCs in 1974 with the couple of 100s of TC victims.

Were you criticising your own logic there Piratis? Take into account all the Diaspora from the TCs and then do the math again. You cant, for instance, kill every one around and leave just one alive. There are thousands dead at his feet. Silly logic deserves silly logic.

This, couple of hundred is already and always disputed by TCs and independent sources. Even if it was a couple of hundred what
cypezokyli says is right numbers don’t matter, One is too many.

untold stories for the misssing persons the mass graves and memories from the past of cyprus

What does it mean "untold stories"? The people that search for the missing don't know about these facts?

Zan, what about the TC diaspora? There is a huge (compared to our size) diaspora of Greek Cypriots as well. Just in London there are about 200.000 Greek Cypriots.

This, couple of hundred is already and always disputed by TCs and independent sources.

Really? Turkish Cypriots not only have a list of all their victims, they try to find as much info about their deaths (stories, photos etc) for propaganda purposes. The number of TC victims is some 100s, about the same as the GC number until 1974. However in 1974 several thousands of GCs died and there is no comparable loss in the TC side.

Even if it was a couple of hundred what
cypezokyli says is right numbers don’t matter, One is too many.

If one is too many then what about 6000, which is the number of victims we had during the invasion. Or what you say is that even if 1 Turk is killed this gives you the right to perform a genocide and the 1 murder would be equated with the genocide?

2 murders is worst that 1, and 6000 murders is worst that a couple of 100s. This is a fact.
