The facts suggest that indeed the Greeks were far less brutal 2,500 years ago than other side-by-side societies and certainly the Greeks of 2,500 years ago were far more civilised than ISIS are today.

If you want to compare (in order to excuse) ISIS with some random brutal behaviour practiced 2,500 years ago, I'm sure there were plenty brutal groups (early Turkish-ancestors in Mongolia for example - even the Chinese wanted to keep them out). But to use the ancient Greeks as examples of brutal regimes is only to show your ignorance of the Classics.

Look hard into your psyche Lordo and finally grasp what you are saying - that the barbarity of ISIS compares to the worst of behaviour from the long-ago past, and that is fine? - then, you should feel shame and finally shut up (please).

Look to modern equivalents of ISIS's brutalities and the nearest you will find are their cousins the Turks!

Lordo is , in Miltiades words, a fucking idiot.

Alexander the Great did not rape and pillage. An imperialist maybe, from an advance civilization that bought with it many gifts but never was he genocidal. In fact, evidence suggests he was the most tolerant, eager to accept other peoples as his own, in his own army and as citizens. There were no executions, beheadings, or destruction of other cultures and beliefs.

The USA too, is an advance country. Imperialistic too perhaps, but it has offered so many good things in virtually all fields, including the Arts and Culture. Once again, a very tolerant society to people of differing sexuality, race and religion. Trying very hard to have the fairest possible social fabric.

On the other hand, ISIL are cutthroats plus more and just can't be compared to Ancient Greece, USA or Israel.

The Greeks called them barbarians. So after 2500 nothing much has changed. We have real barbarians alive and kicking in 2015 (DAESH). Take me back to Ancient Greece.

Meanwhile, it seems that some mad prominent Israeli rabbi is claiming that God has sent DAESH to help the Jews, both by dominating countries which wish to destroy Israel and by creating an atmosphere in Europe that is encouraging Jews there to migrate to Israel. Religion is madness!

Of all the viruses that humans have endured over millennia
none has been more potent than the man made virus of religion .

here some figures on your greatest loving warrior.

1) Soldiers:
a) Granikos: 10000 Persians + 10000 Hellenics fighting for Persians
b) Issos: 50-100000 Persians + 5-10000 Hellenics fighting for Persians
c) Gavgamila: 50000 Persians and a few thousands Hellenics fighting for Persians
d) Ydastis: 20000 Indians

2) Civillians
a) Theva: 6000
b) Sintimana India: 80000
c) Sanghala: 17000
