Then again, what was he to do, given who was behind this, the place where Cyprus was situated in the Cold War? Would Cypriots have enjoyed the nuclear weapons that came with being not non-aligned? Without Makarios this island would have been torn in two, it is another reason why it is unfair to judge him a "Greek".
...indeed, it should not be hard to have the Treaty of Guarantee revoked, Cyprus must agree, and so too the three who have blood soaking their copies of it. Greece does the right thing, it is up to Turkey to follow, so too the British, if they can digest the truth of their own failures. Cyprus needs no Guarantor. Despite its so-called Guarantors, Cyprus still exists; says a lot about Cyprus, says a lot about Cypriots.
