Maybe that is the way he implies. That the airport should come under the authority of RoC and then it can be used for direct flights.

That is the only way, unfortunately, Lordo thinks that there is some kind of magical formula to open direct flights to an illegitimate Airport.

Everything has to do with the 'illegal" part. As long as no one sues/takes legal measures/complains against it, then direct flights will be possible.
In fact some airlines already take the risk and do it.
So there is one magical formula. To do it on their own risk, while the RoC turns a blind eye.

They were already doing illegal exports from Famagusta until one day the RoC intervened... So what actually turned them from "legal" to "illegal" was RoC's intervention.

It's not quite that simple. Cyprus is a signatory to ICAO and a member of EASA.

They will require that this Airport comes under their jurisdiction somehow, and that is only possible through the RoC or through Turkey.

I don't think Cyprus is in a position to sign this authority to an occupier.

if kasoulides said we could work out a formula for direct Flights, then he should know something.

Which airline is going to operate and take there passengers to an illegal port of entry?

So you want a WRITTEN agreement that will say that we will "turn a blind eye"? Or maybe this will be done verbally and they will also say that they will not give Varosha back ... but they will "turn a blind eye" if any of our refugees jump over the fences and go live in the ruins

Now seriously. I would like to see an answer to lordo's argument. If Ercan is illegal how come Turkey flies there and nobody took any measures?

It won't be written you fool. Haven't you heard of gentlemen's agreement? I have done hundreds of those and they work better than written agreements. For one you can abolish them if the other side does not keep her promises.

Is it possible to be under the Jurisdiction of the UN? Or some EU body?

Turkey is operating the Airport under its own CAA. Their Airlines are the only ones flying there. At the same time they are saying the Airport belongs to the "trnc" but please tell me who the regulator from the "trnc" is.

It gets very messy if another airline like Malaysian, QANTAS or whoever else choose to fly there. Basically, this airline would have chosen to operate to an Airport which is occupied and which has no official regulator approved by the RoC. It's a very dangerous step and a legal minefield should an airline willfully take passengers to an illegal port of entry. Firstly, their insurance is void. If they crash, then who will pay?

Probably not! It comes down to liability as much as meeting ICAO standards.

The only way is for the airport to come under the RoCs jurisdiction or the RoC recognizes Turkey's jurisdiction over the occupied Airport which will not happen.
