Cobalt Air aspired to be the new national airline of Cyprus. It commenced scheduled operations on 7 July 2016, promoting Larnaca as a hub for the region. (I joined Cobalt in early 2015, becoming CEO in August.) Highlights:

- developed initial Business Plan in early 2015,
- formed core management team before taking on CEO role in Summer 2015,
- supervised AOC and Operating Licence exercises through 2015/16,
- identified and secured investment for the project in late 2015,
- oversaw launch of operations in July 2016 and build up of fleet to three A320s
- served as board adviser September 2016 through to year end

I think this is the link you are referring to.

Which makes it pretty clear cut. it was these guys that set Cobalt up. they did everything including secure funding for the project.

You should post the entire link to show that he is still very active and not in jail from this alleged Russian raid.

That's up to you I just set out to prove

The investors were Chinese

AP Was the CEO at one time

He was manhandled out of his office in Russia

And DT did not claim to have"set up" the airline

Having achieved this I will respect DTs wishes and say no more

I really don't care that Cobalt Aero went down either apart from everyone else losing their jobs again...

It is clearly a Chinese Company. Chinese investor behind it.

I was a lot more concerned over the demise of Cyprus Airways, the flag carrier of Cyprus. But that has gone down too and there won't be anything like it ever again.

The Cyprus Aviation market is sold out to overseas interests. There is only one small Cypriot Company - TUS Airways.

https://tusairways.com/

Maybe they might resurrect something. The owner is ex Cyprus Airways. Euthymios George Liassis.

The problem is, the Cyprus Government has allowed too many LCC into Cyprus.

Same thing probably. That was the inspiration. When Cyprus Airways went down, these guys tried to fill the gap - so they aspired to be the replacement or National carrier.

However, you are not a national carrier unless you are Cyprus owned in my view. This isn't the only view however.

The closest thing to a national carrier in Cyprus is TUS Airways. But it is unfortunate that they can't use the Cyprus Airways name and the Flying Agrino. Siberian Airlines own those rights.

Erm...yeah about that. You do know that to get a commercial license in the EU the voting rights need to be majority controlled by an EU UBO (underlying beneficiary). Tus isn’t owned by George Liassis dude. It’s israeli owned. Just looks like it’s Cypriot like cobalt did with giving majority voting rights (you just separate a class of shares and have a side letter with the guy) to the chairman.

Tus isn’t Cypriot mate.

We are gonna have to get on the same page here.

You are telling me that TUS is Israeli backed and you told me that Cobalt was Chinese backed and yet it is only an issue for Israel.

TUS has a foreign backer. Liassis was trying to get one for some time. The guy isn't that rich but there is a group of Cyprus Airways Captains who are shareholders and investors too. Liassis is one of them and the guy that started it all.

Even when Cyprus Airways was a going concerned, foreign interests were able to buy shares in the company and become significant holders.

BTW, there are many backersd and they are predominately European and American. I don't know in what proportions.

not sure what you’re asking here mate but what I’m saying is that the European “shareholders” will have a disproportionate control of the company compared to their investment so that it seems that the firm has European UBO’s.

Giving you gold here
