Well it's confirmed.

A new Cypriot Airline will commence operations by the end of the year with a fleet of A320 aircraft. The airline is going to be a full service business airline but will offer discount fares as well probably based on the Virgin model.

The company will be Australian Owned with Peter Miller as CEO and Michael Hayden from QANTAS/Jetsar, and Andrew Pyne from Cathay Pacific and Dragonair.

This looks like an all star line up and I am starting to get that warm fuzzy feeling. With people like this leading the charge, the Airline might end up being a cracker.

Now I need to apply for a job. :D

It will be interesting to see if the company will try and headhunt some of the Cyprus Airways staff. I reckon a few will be coming from QANTAS, Jetstar, Cathay and Dragonair. Probably the reason why they didn't want the CA Brand because they don't want the Cyprus Government to dictate any of the terms.

It's an interesting world and some interesting times to come methinks. The airline might even have codeshare with the big QANTAS, and Cathay Pacific in which case it's bye bye Aegean Airlines.

The airline will be leasing QANTAS owned Jetstar A320s, this also means they will be able to bring in extra Jetstar aircraft for the peak season and flood the market until they get marketshare.

QANTAS only have A380, A350 and A330 in the Airbus family. The rest is all Boeing. But Jetstar has about 100 Airbus A320 as well as the Dreamliner B787.

It might happy.

It appears this new outfit has some majors behind it.

But nothing is for certain in aviation but when you got executives like the ones mentioned from Cathay and QANTAS then something is brewing.

It won't happen until you see the first A320s arrive in Cyprus and begin services. Fingers crossed. My only disappointment is that they are naming the company Cobalt Air. There seems to be no attachment to Cyprus, so the island can have a Flag Carrier. Would like to see the Moufflon on the tails.

Good luck to them. I understand that are looking at Flying to a number of places. I will certainly consider them.

The new Cypriot airline, Cobalt air announced ,,, 14 routes to become available as soon as July. The president of the airline’s Board of Directors, Gregoris Diacou said today that the company will start flying on 1st June and within a month it will connect Cyprus with direct flights to Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, London, Manchester, East Midlands, Glasgow, Cardiff, Dublin, Paris, Beirut, Tel Aviv and Tehran. Cobalt’s licensing process is in its final stages and will be expanding fleet and adding even more destinations by October. Mr Diacou added that the company believes in the capabilities of Cypriots and wanting to support the local economy has chosen to mostly hire Cypriots. A large percentage of Cobalt’s 145 strong work-force are ex-Cyprus Airways employees. The company has also plans to expand its reach in 2017 to destinations which were not traditionally directly connected to Cyprus such as China, India and USA.
