Question for Turks/TCs

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby ONURLU_1925 » Sun Dec 25, 2005 3:34 am

manual quote from main_source;
- "ISOLATION is the fault of Turkey for dividing the two peoples and pushing TC into an illegal state."

Isolation to Turkey Republic of Northern Cyprus is the biggest injustice in World's history. Turkey prevent Greek and EOAK doing genocide to Turkish Cypriots. However, imperial countries don't want to see powerful Turkey, do this unjust isolation.

manual quote from main_source;
- "why have numerous journalists been murdered...from Turkish Government?"

Who murdered from Turkish Government? Please give me an example...

manual quote from main_source;
"Infact, there is a law case in Turkey right now, seeing a Turkish journalist charged for criticizing 'Turkishness'..and he is being charged by THE STATE!!!"

You said that Turkey didn't have democracy, didn't say? Ok, let we see the democracy. This director is an example. I will give another example. Tony Angastiniotis, writer of "Voice of Blood", is guilty in the Greeks' eye, because he has written the true side of Cyprus events. In this book he has told us, the carnage in Muratağa, Sandallar ve Atlılar events, which ends dying of 126 innocent Turkish Cypriots, with public documents. He told also Turkish mass graves, which were carnaged by Greece&EOKA. After this, media of Greece and Southern Cyprus blamed him treachery, Akel Tv sacked him. He lost his job, he didn't have any money, he has refuged to TRNC. TRNC's East Mediterranean University give him a job. He gives lectures to Turkish students. There isn't any nation discrimination in TRNC, as you see. A Greek Cypriot can give lectures to Turkish Cypriots. Now, I agree with you main_source, your country has democracy. I'm excuse, but I'm laughing. Hehehehe. I applaud (!) your democracy and speaking freedom.

manual quote from main_source;
"31 years of Turkish occupation has got to end some time."
Turkish intervention against EOKA genocide for Turkish Cypriots, give Turkish Cypriots their living and human rights.
Don't forget Turkish Army's power is eternal and Turkish love of TRNC(KKTC) is too.

In adition, don't forget Greek military service. Greek military service members saved terorist leader, as you know, he had Southern Cyprus passport in his jacket, while he arrested. He is also murder of 35.000 people and wanted from Interpol with red message, but Southern Government gave him passport. It is dilemma, isn't it?

if there was no democracy in the Republic of Cyprus...they would not have been allowed into the EU.

and what is this 'Southern Government' crap?

...and again...distortion of history. There was no genocide of Turkish Cypriots...thats crap. About the same amount of Greek Cypriots were killed up to 1974 and in the summer of 1974, more Greek Cypriots were murdered by Turks and Turkish Cypriots then the total number of Turkish Cypriots murdered in the previous ten years.

You have no shame in spreading LIES like 'Turkish Cypriot genocide'.

Were you there? I don't think so! People in my family were murdered, are missing and ethnically cleansed from their homes. Whatever name you call it by, they suffered enormously and needlessly.

I wouldn't dream of dissing your pain in this way. Shame on you!

Piratis - don't be putting words in my mouth. I never said "Kill them all. When they will be all dead they will not be able to die again." You do me a big diss. Here is what I'm saying:

There is a conflict. Innocent people die. It happened on both sides. I'm not out to score points. But my people suffered between 1963-74 and your people did that, just as Turkey's intervening and the partition led to your people suffering.

Like Bosnia/former Yugoslavia and the Jews in post-Nazi Germany, the last place Turkish Cypriots wanted to be was living amongst their former aggressors. By 2004, Turkish Cypriots felt the world - and Cyprus - had changed. They had learnt to forgive and come to terms with outcomes of their actions and impact/trauma it had on Greek Cypriots. They chose to put the past behind them and vote for unification. 65% of them did.

Given the responses - the intolerance of other's views and pure venom of some on this forum by some Greek Cypriots - you have to ask, "what's the point?" Is there ever going to be a common way forward or are we destined to live apart forever?

You can not tell me what to think, but you can help educate me on your pain (though you need to learn to communicate better), just as I (and other Turkish Cypriots) can with ours. That won't happen if you deny my "truth" - neither of us have a monoploy on that.

Cabbie, was a nice idea (though I felt your questions were leading in a negative direction). Was trying to be open, not offend. Being open helps expose our prejudices and helps overcome ignorance. It's got to be a 2-way street to work....

Is EU democratic? EU is one of the biggest anti-democratic establisment in the World. If you wonder why I say like this, I will explain.

Look at the photos about EOKA carnage on Turkish Cypriots, you see the genocide.

UN (United Nations) rejected to discuss Turkish Cypriots Genocide ten years ago. Why?
Because TRNC aren'y known by UN. Is this justice? Is this being respectful to human rights, living rights?

Because it never happened. Why do you have to believe everything that they teach you in Turkey?

We haven't had Enosis and Megali Idea courses in schools but you had 1930's and after.
It happened or did not happened, UN didn't say anything.
UN only say we didn't discuss it, because UN scares :P

As a Turkish Cypriot, I am also dissapointed that this matter has been politicised, I hope that my answers are sufficent in answering your question.
How much freedom of speech did (or do) you have?- Although there was a certain degree of stigma attached to to journalists who didn't prescribe to the official rhetoric of the gov. this wasn't government sponsored though although i don't think it would have displeased people in power. A prominent leftist newspaper 'Afrika' has been in circulatiuon for as long as I can remember. They've been critical and even satirical about Denktas for years which I beleive represents the extent of freedoms enjoyed by people in N.Cyprus.
How much power did (or does) Denktash have? - Denktas is a respected leader amongst the Turkish Cypriot community, although his term as President is now over. I have heard accounts from greek cypriot friends of mine that Denktas gets chauffered around in his black mercedes followed by numerous bodygaurds, they beleive that this is an example of dentas being distant from the community which he was elected to represent. To my knowledge this kind of traetment is bestowed upon every national leader. Denktases power was equal to any other president in the world, he had legal immunity whilst in power (unless impeached) and he had a lot of political support (despite having to be officically neutral). He couldn't have people killed, he couldn't ban political parties or news organisations and had to obide by the rules of the TC constitution.
Was it "safe to openly disagree with him, or his cronies? - I think i've already given examples of this happening with 'Afrika' a leftist newspaper. But the best example of this is represented by the partition of UBP denktases own party. A power dispute between Dentas and Eroglu resulted in Denktas establishing a new party DP (now led by his son Serdar Denktas). Denltas expected all of his cronies to follow him, this didn't happen. Therfore the answer to your question is yes people are free to disagree with Denktas and his cronies because they didn't always agree with one another.
What about travel? Could you travel anywhere or did you have to say exactly where you were going? - are you serious. do people actually think thats how we lived its not the USSR. We could travel anywhere within Northern Cyprus although some areas where millitary zones and obviously these areas were prohibited. but they arn't as numerous as people would have you beleive.
Did people "disappear"? - no
For how long do you have to do military service? to my knowledge its 18 months for non-university grads. 12 months for grads. but if youre willing to pay you can get away without doin any time at all.
How have things changed since 2003? - new parliment, new primeminister, new president and a few un sponsored urban regeneration projects and not much else.
