Speculation is high that Australia and NZ will announce an additional 3500 troops this week!

I would not be so ready to celebrate the prospect of seeing more young soldiers dying for a lost cause if I were in the Antipodes.

The IS fighters will welcome such a confrontation, it is what all the "Head Chopping" is about, a stratagem to goad a ground attack since they are unable to shoot down high altitude bombers with their inferior weaponry.

Recruitment will flourish (for IS) when the military offensive begins, for every IS fighter (or civilian) killed, two more will rise up to take their place, THAT is how it has been up to now, and I think we may all live to regret the mistakes of the past.

How did that song go ? :- "Fools rush in where wise men never go, but wise men seldom fall in battle, so how are they to know".

I would not worry about the ADF or NZDF.

they don't send soldiers to their death. With the SAS there, I don't think there is much chance of that either.

THAT statement is absolutely beneath you Paphitis, are you seriously suggesting that no soldier will be killed because of the presence of the SAS ?, (or any other reason).

One would have to admit that the modern day soldier is heavily armoured (which is a moot point) in battle, their opponents will be far less well protected (which raises the "David v Goliath" scenario once again) but MUST be credited with some "Courage" because they will be aware of the superior force they face.

Even if ONE soldier is killed :- how does the saying go ?.

"To take one life is to kill the world, to save one life is to save the world", I would have thought YOU would know that saying.

Or something very similar to it. Insha Allah.

They have superior training and superior tactics. Don't ever expect any Australian Commander to sacrifice any of our soldiers and whatever they do will be planned to the nth degree with exit strategies at every corner and with Air Support.

Our numbers are small, so the ISF will have to do the heavy lifting. We will be there when they get themselves into trouble.

I hope you understand the significance of this Aussie Saber Rattling by our Government. Soon the floodgates will open and before you know it, there will be 100,000 boots on the ground and many will be from our Gulf State friends, Egypt and Jordan.
