I love the Cypriot " language" part of our heritage, I also love the Greek language which I consider as the most rich language in the world. Such an expressive language.

The Cypriot Greek is also expressive none more so than in this old wedding tciatisto.

Good point, Sotos. The correct pronunciation can be given only with Greek letters.

Lordo, see how we defend our culture, you however capitulated to the Latins long ago, I bet you can't even write one word using the Arabic alphabet

Almost daily, a good friend of mine who looks the spitting image of Joe Pesci pops in for a chat, he lives nearby. Quite a character who looks in his forties but he is 62 years old. John is his name, many T/Cs adopt "English" names, his real name is Hasan and speaks fluent Cypriot, he is a true Cypriot and looks one too.

His Cypriot speaking is the traditional language and often comes out with words that I have not encountered for years now, words like ENJE KAIKEN O KOSMOS RE KOUMBARE LALO SOU.

He has two grandchildren and adores them both, showed him a photo of my almost 7 year old grandson and he commented. INTA TCIAKKOS POUNE FILE MOU, NA TA SHILLIASI .

We share much in common not least our mutual motherland, the island of Cyprus, our love for our grandchildren and families and not least our passionate love of the red staff

Let's go

Theletra, a small village in Paphos, my fathers village, has its own Cypriot dialect and accent developed over many years of drinking water for a natural spring, als no longer running.

Here is something I heard some years back.

EPSHISTIKAN MES TON KAVENE CHE LAMNAN XILO OULLI NICHTA. EKAMAN TON KAVETJI LAOUTI !!
