A rather obscure story about the Mighty versus the Weak (and there are many variations) cites the fable that an Elephant and a Mouse once came to disagree about a certain territorial matter.
Neither had ever seen each other before and the Elephant was convinced that his size would be his biggest asset in any battle as he strode toward the designated place of confrontation.
The Mouse went boldly forth and upon seeing the Elephant approaching, decided that a hasty retreat would serve him best and he scurried behind a tree and concealed himself.
The Elephant arrived at the appointed place and did not see any sign of an adversary so he relaxed and began to pluck the grass at the base of the very tree that the Mouse was hiding behind.
Suddenly, the Mouse ran out of it's hiding place and the Elephant stepped sharply back and raised his trunk (it is suggested that this action exhibited fear on the Elephant's part that the Mouse might run up inside his trunk).
It's a kind of "David v Goliath" story and is quite common among some African tribes folk when they teach their young the virtues of bravery when faced with an enemy equipped with an overwhelming force.
Such "Philosophy" as one might recognize in this rather silly tale has also been heard among certain "Jihadi" groups, it may sound a bit off kilter but, if one imagines the American (and allies) to be the Elephant and the Jihadis the Mouse, I am certain that we must ALL agree that the Jihadis are certainly making a good job of getting (metaphorically) right up the Elephant's trunk, it really must be quite annoying.
OR, subsequent to the assault on "Pearl Harbour" when the Japanese attacked the American fleet, Admiral Yamamotos remarked that he feared the action would only serve to "Awaken a sleeping Giant" and he was quite right in that the outcome was horrific.
Equally, it could NOW be said that the Americans have disturbed a "Hornet's Nest" and it would appear that they will also pay the price for their mistake, more so than the Japanese perhaps since ONE "Giant" would be no match for THOUSANDS of angry "Hornets".
Moral:- "Pack your Trunk" and leave the "Hornets" lands e're they invade and make YOUR life as much of a misery as you made theirs.
