Double Whammy for Erdogan and Turkey

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Double Whammy for Erdogan and Turkey

Turkey gets an ear bashing at both the European Court of Human Rights and the UN but why don’t these bodies do something about the human rights abuses this authoritarian regime has inflicted on the Greek Cypriots for forty years.
They are critical of Turkey for abuse of press freedom but appease Turkey with regard to the illegal occupation of Cyprus. We can only hope that Erdogan’s ego will lead him so far from civilised standards that the West will reject his neo-ottoman aspirations and force him to quit Cyprus.

Keep it up Erdo, do us a favour, keep pushing your luck.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) conducted its annual press conference in Strasbourg on Thursday, where it was revealed that Turkey single-handedly surpassed the remaining 46 states in the Council of Europe (CoE) in terms of cases involving violations of the right to freedom of expression in 2014.

Turkey's deplorable human rights record, particularly regarding the terrible situation of press freedoms and a partisan judiciary, was registered at the highest level this week when many of the 193 UN member states raised serious concerns about the backslide that Turkey has been experiencing under the authoritarian regime of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on rights and freedoms

And to cap it all sultan Erdogan demonstrates his complete ignorance political systems.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has claimed that the United Kingdom has a "semi-presidential system" and that the country's queen is a "dominant element" in politics as he tried to justify the presidential system he wants to bring to the country.

Because the ECHR and the UN are not truly independent bodies but they are influenced to a great degree by the interests of powerful countries, mostly the Americans.

They have already decided how the Cyprus Problem will be solved and they don't want to do anything that could give hope to Cypriots that they could demand something better.

Our side is following a very defensive stance and is satisfied if things just stay the same and not worst. We could have taken a more aggressive stance but I am sure that the Americans gave to our government very clear warnings against this.

For example I don't see why we wouldn't use the situation in Ukraine as a parallel to our problem. Our politicians keep repeating the American argument that the two situations are different. Of course they are different, in that what Turkey has done to Cyprus is far worst. We could have argued that EU can't sanction Russia when Turkey faces no consequences for doing something much worst on EU territory.

Unfortunately we are not even allowed to ask for our rights. I can imagine the kind of threats that our government receives behind the scenes, more so now that we are broke and we need their financial support.
