Greece and Turkey almost went to a war in 1996 because of Imia, which is basically an uninhabited rock in the Aegean. But it seems that for you Turkey expanding its occupation is not a problem!

Even if we forget the fact that Turkey is occupying 1/3rd of Cyprus, cases such as Strovilia, the S-300 fiasco and more recently the NAVTEX issue clearly show that the army of Cyprus is completely unable to defend the territory and interests of Cyprus.

Turkey would have invaded, CNG or no CNG. But the fact remains we need the CNG now more than ever as a nucleus for the EU (France, Greece etc even Russia) to have a basis for their joint military manoeuvres and suchlike - which, given the right time, will swoop to remove the Turks.

The Turks needed an excuse to invade and CNG gave it to them. Other countries coming to save us is again a dream. However what I suggested is just the reduction of our army to a small professional one, which would allow Cyprus to provide bases and participate in certain organizations.

If not that excuse then they would find another. The timing was right for the Turks, that's all. This was not the first time they tried.

But, I agree that we only need a core CNG as part of the larger EU forces. Also, since we are not in NATO, we have to maintain strong links with Russia. If NATO wants to woo Cyprus and the EU, in the future, is has to remove rogue states like Turkey.

EU = NATO. Everyone knows that.

Lots of "brave" Cypriots like you before 1974 as well. They were going to throw the Turks in the sea and make them swim back to Turkey. Or so they though. Their bravery disappeared and they started running when the Turkish army landed.

yeh no worries, they are really going to retaliate over a few abandoned huts and about 100m of territory.
