My own prediction is that Greece will remain in the EZ and that the EU will show some leniency as regards austerity measures. Very hard times ahead for the Greek people.

I wish the Greek people the very best and hope the new government brings stability coupled with wisdom and well planned actions. Greece deserves a better financial future the people also deserve a better economic future.

The Euro has taken quite a bashing of late, MMR against STG this morning at the highest ever. 1.34107 and looks to continue losing ground against the US $ and the British pound.

By the end of today STG could reach 1.35 against Euro.

Syriza says it will re-engage sacked public workers and put pensions up to previous levels AND it wants some of its debt written off. It simply does not add up, there's going to be a lot of disillusioned Greeks soon who will soon be accusing the new Government of not keeping its promises. Writing off debt will set a precedent for other debtor States, so it won't happen, the best Greece can expect is even lower interest rates and an extension to the loan term.

Good luck to the Greeks but unfortunately for them, like the Cypriots, they have had to endure years of bent politicians, a bloated public sector and a shortage of tax revenue. Nobody should be allowed to hold any sort of public office without basic education in economics - especially the idiot communists/socialists in Greece.

I don't think the new GR govt will last for more than 1 year.

Syriza itself is a coalition of centre left to far left parties. And besides that, they will have to collaborate with at least one more party...centre left 'Potami' or centre right 'ANEL'... but ANEL doesn't want coalition with Potami... :?

I just cannot see how this can work... :?

Greece is once again leading the way. :D

I have real hopes they can bring humanity to the Germans and make them stand up to the bankers, at least, a little.

It looks like oblivion to me.

But hope they get their act together nonetheless. Methinks, Siriza will tone it down quite a lot and that all the previous talk was election jargon.

I don't think a head on collision with the Eurozone is such a good idea. Not after so much work has been done already.
