Turkey believes that the status quo should be maintained in Cyprus. If this is to be upset then the Island should revert to Turkey. It should be made quite clear that any attempt to change the status quo by roundabout means is not compatible with the desire to keep friendship with Turkey intact. Those who wish a change in the status quo should take that point into consideration. Otherwise the trust and confidence of the Turkish people will be shaken.

The Greek Cypriots had suffered 300 years of Ottoman dominance, they were not prepared to let that happen again. If you can't see that then it's YOU that does not understand the Cyprus problem.

i beg to differ charluimu. you could have taken your part of cyprus and do as you wish, nobody was stopping you. but to expect the tcs to join you in your enosising with griiis i am afriad puts you into the clueless camp. particularly that way it was going to be done.
1. get the tcs to riot
2. crush them in 3 days
3. terggy will not be able to intervene after that.
4. declare enosis.

You can beg all you like, what you are suggesting is that the Greek Cypriots partitioned the island and effectively let Turkey back in. All could have been possible, until the arrival of colonists. That sealed the betrayal for me. TCs welcomed them, seeing nothing peculiar in letting non Cypriots move in and usurp Cypriot property.

As for going to the occupied areas, no, not for me. My memories are too precious to risk. Harami sas. If you close the crossing points is no skin off my nose. Living a lifetime away from Famagusta, losing touch with the people i grew up with, that cannot be undone by opening crossing points or inane slogans about peace and friendship.

The "divide and rule" method was implemented by offering to your small non-native minority unfair privileges on the expense of the native majority...

Please know your History, neither the Greek Cypriots or the Turkish Cyproits are "natives", the Natives were the Pheonicians + other Middle Eastern people, everyone else came here from the outside.

All this "lack of correct knowledge" has lead to the Cyprus problem and continues to cause trouble.

But if the Turkish Army did not arrive, all the things that happened in Crete would have repeated in Cyprus.

In short: The armies arrival flipped the situation around and what was happening to the Turkish Cypriots started happening to the Greek Cypriots. Killing, Rape, missing people, homes lost, it's all very sad.

But if the Turkish Army did not arrive, all the things that happened in Crete would have repeated in Cyprus.

What happened to Crete was in a totally different time under totally different circumstances. The same happened to millions of Greeks in Asia Minor. So what you say is not a fact but just your opinion. Claiming to be fortune tellers doesn't make your crimes any better. Otherwise every child murderer could claim that he murdered somebody who would be the next Hitler and demand an award instead of punishment. The only alternative history that would be certainly true is that if the Turks had stayed in their own homeland in Mongolia instead of invading our lands then there wouldn't be any such problems in Cyprus, Crete or any other Greek lands.
