Freaking out a bit!
GreekIslandGirl wrote:Again from my own experience I have had nothing but happy memories with my dog (bless her little heavenly paws) in Cyprus.
Before I knew quite how bad these "stories" of poisonings were, I used to let my dog run around the fields (my dads) but they spread across on to others, and she wandered a bit. She never came to any harm and I must say, I never noticed any signs that anyone was laying out rat poison (apart from myself, one mad rat-infested summer, when the cat population in the village had noticeably declined and one got in the house).
However, I did hear of a few cases were dogs had died from snake bites.![]()
Anyway, she even run around on the beach and swam in the sea - and only once did a woman get out of the sea and looked disgusted that my dog was in the same 'water' as her.![]()
But, I would say the worst hazard for dogs in Cyprus is being left in cars (even with the windows slightly open) as it gets killingly hot. No No No!

Most areas are pretty safe, and you'll get to know them.

I should have added, dogs are NOT allowed on the beach unless in designated areas, of which there are very, very few.
Get Real! wrote:If you ensure that your dog doesn’t become a nuisance to others then it should be alright, because Cypriots do have a tendency to take care of business when annoyed.
Take my case as an example; a house across mine foolishly decided to start feeding feral cats by leaving food outside in their garden.
This has resulted in about 4-5 feral cats getting very brazen and cavalier so I now often find them “congregating” in my beautiful garden and causing annoying problems.
Prior to that the odd feral cat would visit once a month which I can tolerate but I certainly don’t want 5 cats; “belonging” to someone else, here every day!
My only choice now is to ask them to stop feeding them or I’ll have no choice but to poison them.
