A CY pilot I know saw the writing on the wall and left 2 years ago to work for Saudia, he didn't take his family with him, neither did the Eurocypria pilot I know who went to work in Qatar when they closed down.

I don't get this thing about a National carrier, does Spain, (Iberia belongs to BA), does either Holland or France (AF & KLM are one company)? Down under you have your wonderful QANTAS, so what?

BTW QANTAS stands for Queers And Nymphomaniacs Traveling After SEX!

The first part is a matter of opinion, the second is a matter of record.[/quote]

There are quite a few former CA Pilots who now work for Saudi Air, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar and a few others.

I know about 10.

QANTAS is a private airline. It's not Government owned but there are laws that the company has to be at least 51% Australian owned if I am not mistaken. It's still classified a National Carrier. Iberia is still the National Carrier of Spain and so forth.

Aegean is becoming Greece's National Carrier and they own Olympic.

And yes, Air France and KLM are National carriers.

But there are still those who don't want to move their families to the Middle East. And moving your family is the only viable option otherwise you will never hardly see them. Then there are all the free Private Education to consider which is a very big carrot if you have young kids.
