Winter tires are a definite advantage over All-Season; likely what is normally found on the truck when sold, 4x4 or not, are Summer Tires, because they offer the quietest and smoothest ride, while being by category the least costly. Chains have the advantage of their ease of installation compared to changing tires themselves, they are not practical if the vehicle is in a winter environment where their use is required most of the time, being hard on the car itself what with the vibrations they cause; in severe weather and extreme driving conditions (mountain driving), it is good to have them though, even if winter tires are installed, they may be the difference between complete confidence and having to evaluate risks. Winter Tires wear very quickly on warm and dry pavement, All-Seasons correct for that weakness with other rubber compounds, but they have less stopping power when it's needed most generally speaking: it really boils down to cost and purpose. Driving with Summer Tires in snow, or on Ice is possible, at best only with the most experienced drivers, not habitually, but rarely under an extreme need. Defensive driving is the biggest factor to driving safely, indeed, brakes are defined as emergency devices because it is by driving your car, that one should be always in complete control.
Happy driving, patience, never let the vehicle get ahead of you; Speed Kills.
...more photos please, i just love photos of the snow in Trodos.
