Occupied Areas In On People Smuggling...???

Postby bill cobbett » Fri Jan 02, 2015 8:22 pm

There have been two stories in the news about migrants being abandoned on ships in recent days, ships without crews, put on auto-pilot and headed towards Italy.

The second of these involves the ship, a livestock carrier, the Ezadeen.

The BBC report includes a ref that, according to earlier reports, this ship may have come from CY, with later reports giving its last port as in Turkey.

" ... (He)...added that the 73-metre (240ft) Ezadeen was believed to have set sail from Turkey, although earlier reports suggested it was sailing from Cyprus..."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-30653742

The Independent says...

"... The Ezadeen, a livestock carrier built in 1966, was due to be sailing from Cyprus to Sete in the south of France, but was commandeered by people traffickers. ..."

According to the Guardian, it left from a Turkish port...

"... “We know that it left from a Turkish port and was abandoned by its crew,” coastguard spokesman Filippo Marini told SkyTG24 television. ..."

However the latest report from the Guardian shows Occupied Famagusta as on the itinerary, as being the last port...

"... Records of the Ezadeen’s movements show that it left Tartus, Syria’s second largest port, in October before sailing north towards the southern coast of Turkey and looping back towards northern Cyprus. After leaving Famagusta, in northern Cyprus, on 19 December, it returned to the Turkish coast and repeatedly changed direction as if in a holding pattern between Cyprus and Turkey. ... "

Below is a screen shot from the Guardian of a map showing the route of this vessel...

Below is also the screen shot from marinetraffic. It gives the Ezadeen's last known port, on the 19 December, as (...Occupied...) Famagusta.

Doubtless things will become clearer but the good news is that the passengers are safe and the boat is being towed to port.

I am not at all surprised that the BBC had to mention Cyprus as possibly being part of all this. No attention to detail, accuracy or truth when it comes to an opportunity to besmirch Greeks.

You are Paranoid. There was no mention of Greece or Greeks or even Greek Speaking Cypriots in the BBC item, only that the ship might have called at Cyprus

The Guardian report identifies the ship had called at Famagusta which despite being in the illegally occupied zone is still a part of the geographical island of Cyprus, and on that basis while lacking detail the BBC would in fact appear to have been correct.

The serious question is, where did all the people get aboard? Were they allowed through port gates in eg Famagusta, or a Turkish port, or was the ship loaded by shuttling people out in smaller boats so they boarded at sea?

Reh Bill C!

Australia has got some really good solutions for these problems.

All Cyprus needs is a detention Centre and then a one way deportation process back to Turkey (via Greece)!

Problem Solved!

Yes, there is something to be said for the no-nonsence Oz approach. It might help deter people from risking their lives.

Now, if the second Guardian report and its graphic are accurate, the boat arrived in Occupied Famagusta on an unknown date in November and stayed there 'til the 19th December...

... so it was there for at least some three weeks.

The Daily Mail reports that now Six ships have apparently been used the same way, but apart from the Blue Sky M, where the track starts at Istanbul, no other details of the other four ships or their routes are provided.

Seems you are the paranoid one with GiG, anything she says you have to troll and attempt to rubbish.

The ONLY recognised country known as Cyprus is the RoC. When someone mentions Cyprus, the immediately assume/relate to the legal, EU/UN member state not the illegally occupied areas. Most don't even know about our barbarian problem, so please, don't give me that BS. The BBC is a f biased Brit reporter that will always say shit about us. They should state the northern illegally held areas when the refer to that side.

It's like when they refer to the Brit fugitives in Cyprus, no one thinks 'north occupied areas' they only think of the legal south where they may go on holiday. It is about time the media stated the 'geographic' portion when they refer to us so that at least people can see the criminals we are having to deal with. Cheers and Happy New Year.
