There have been two stories in the news about migrants being abandoned on ships in recent days, ships without crews, put on auto-pilot and headed towards Italy.
The second of these involves the ship, a livestock carrier, the Ezadeen.
The BBC report includes a ref that, according to earlier reports, this ship may have come from CY, with later reports giving its last port as in Turkey.
" ... (He)...added that the 73-metre (240ft) Ezadeen was believed to have set sail from Turkey, although earlier reports suggested it was sailing from Cyprus..."

The Independent says...
"... The Ezadeen, a livestock carrier built in 1966, was due to be sailing from Cyprus to Sete in the south of France, but was commandeered by people traffickers. ..."
According to the Guardian, it left from a Turkish port...
"... “We know that it left from a Turkish port and was abandoned by its crew,” coastguard spokesman Filippo Marini told SkyTG24 television. ..."
However the latest report from the Guardian shows Occupied Famagusta as on the itinerary, as being the last port...
"... Records of the Ezadeen’s movements show that it left Tartus, Syria’s second largest port, in October before sailing north towards the southern coast of Turkey and looping back towards northern Cyprus. After leaving Famagusta, in northern Cyprus, on 19 December, it returned to the Turkish coast and repeatedly changed direction as if in a holding pattern between Cyprus and Turkey. ... "
Below is a screen shot from the Guardian of a map showing the route of this vessel...
Below is also the screen shot from marinetraffic. It gives the Ezadeen's last known port, on the 19 December, as (...Occupied...) Famagusta.
Doubtless things will become clearer but the good news is that the passengers are safe and the boat is being towed to port.
