Comments by former Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz at the weekend in newspaper Birgun have led to outrage in Greece and a denial from Yilmaz.
In the interview with Yilmaz, the former PM allegedly admitted that the Turkish state had given funds and support to secret agents who started a number of forest fires in Greece in the 1990s — a covert act in response to suspicions Greek agents had started a number of fires in Turkish tourist areas.
Specifically, Yilmaz, alleges that agents of the Turkish secret service set fire to Greek forests during the leadership of his arch-rival Tansu Ciller, from 1995 to 1998.
While the state's involvement in the fires had long been suspected, the admission would be the first acknowledgment of the operations.
Turkish deep state and Greek forest fires
We now have a growing crisis at hand with Greece. All of a sudden it appears that the Greeks have found a plausible explanation for some of the devastating forest fires in the past. And it seems to me that this will lead to a serious crisis between Greece and Turkey.

Not such a stupid move considering Turkish state authorised and instigated starting fires in Greece to destroy their economy.Outrage As Former Turkish Prime Minister Says The Country Secretly Started Huge Forest Fires In Greece

For some reason between the years of 95-98, there were issues that came to a boiling point between Greece and Turkey. It's an anarchic society and like GiGs said, they're of the land, and some things will never change.
It's never about the good of the country, it's always about individualism, political affiliation and self interest.
The EU and IMF have no idea what they're getting themselves into.
Let's see if they can clinch a 'deal'...
Guardian...despite the hardline position of most eurozone finance ministers, EU leaders expressed the political will at a summit in Brussels to take half a step towards Greece.
