I just can’t imagine Milti sticking two dozen little rectangles on a keypad only to find that they’ve gone all sticky and messy in Cyprus’ 42 degree heat.

This is exactly what the factory does.

There only a few quid for the set.

Is this possible ?

Yes you can add multiple language support via Windows but that’s not the issue we were talking about.

As GR already explained you can set any language keyboard in software, but what is physically printed on the physical keys will not change, they will still show the symbols of the language the physical keyboard is. So for example a UK physical keyboard can be used with a software setting of Greek, but you will not know just by looking at what is printed on the keys what character will actually appear on the screen when you press it - where as if you have a Greek physical keyboard and software keyboard settings as Greek (or UK and UK) then what you see printed on the physical keys it what appears on screen when you press that key.

Also you should bear in mind that whilst you can set any language keyboard in windows changing the actual 'display language' (what language options and setting etc are written in) in windows can range from impossible (windows 7 other than ultimate and pro) to a bit of a pain (windows 8).

Thank you all for your very helpful answers.

She, my 11 year old GD was right. Pappou she said, I can use an English keyboard and write in Greek.

Do you put stickers on the letters I asked ? No pappou, I know the letters off by heart, after all I have been using our PC for ...years now !!

Children of today are so much more at ease with technology, whereas my age group growing up find it difficult to fully comprehend the workings 0f such innovations.

Lets see now, at her age I had no mobile, no TV, not even a radio, computers were not even around. Naturally the kids today do not find these technology strange.

I first started using a computer for my business in 1995, Claris Works. I saw the computer then as a step up from the type writer, no more tipex or mistakes. I must admit that mostly I use the computer for business, emails etc, although since discovering CY Forum, my first ever forum, I have now got to grips with elementary usage.

I now think I shall buy her one from the UK, the Toshiba C50D, 15.6" looks ideal at £200, a bargain compared to my...PINK Samsung laptop that cost me more than double that 2 or 3 years ago, I just like the pink colour, there is something very masculine about this colour

Yesterday I went along to Argos where the Toshiba C50D WAS REDUCED TO £179.99
IE EUROS 225 , a real bargain !!
I checked Stephanis in Limassol, they do not appear to have this model but a similar one with the same 4GB Ram / 500 GB is priced at 469 euros. So it was best to buy in the UK.

In the UK you can usually find better prices and some very good deals if you search a bit. Problem is that with something like a laptop things can go wrong at some point and if you buy it from Cyprus you can get better support ... especially for somebody that doesn't know how to fix things himself.

I assume you talk about this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 455914.htm One word: Crap ;) It has a very slow CPU ... far worst even from an Intel i3. What does your GD need the laptop for? If she wants it for anything more than Office and some web browsing that computer will be a pain! At the very least you should spend closer to 300 pounds for something like these:

Sotos, I think you did not take into account my gd's age !!! She is 11 years old, only just. A very bright kid who loves reading both in Greek and English. She writes school work- 5th class- A 1.35 GHz , a 4 GB Ram and 500 GB is more than she needs at this age.

In fact my very first computer for my business was a mere 10th of this one. For a child this is far far more suitable first laptop.

Your first computer didn't run Windows 8 ... it run an Operating System and programs that required less than a 10th of the power. Besides, you knew of nothing better so you couldn't be disappointed. Your GD already owns a tablet (which one?) and most of them are quite snappy with what they do, and she also has experience with other computers as you noted. The "11 years old" excuse is a poor one... lots of 11 years old need a lot more processing power than your typical office secretary that would run nothing more than Office. And she is not going to be 11 years for long ... or you expect her to get another computer when she turns 12? Ask her what she needs the computer for... if it is anything more than Office that computer will probably be a very frustrating experience. If you can't give more than 200 pounds for a gift then it would be better to give her 200 pounds in cash ... then her parents and others can give some additional money as gifts and buy for her a decent computer.

So when she is 18 years old and passes her driving test, as her first car, I will buy her a ....Mercedes!!!

No ... you would buy her something worst than an old Lada ... the equivalent of that laptop in terms of a car doesn't exist ... since it would be too dangerous to be allowed in the roads ;) The ones I suggested are nowhere near a "Mercedes" ... more like a low end Mitsubishi... the bare minimum for most people. Go read the reviews of your laptop here: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 455914.htm ... it gets 2.8 out of 5 ... more than a third of the reviewers give it 1 star!

Well, she likes it and Elvis too!!!

Bought this laptop to do college work and general internet browsing, brilliant and fast!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Sotos, she is 11 years old mate!!!
She will not be using it for long, she will grow out of it and ...demand the best !!!

My one is a Samsung NP350U5C, have been using it only for personal work for about 3 years. Excellent, what do you think of this one ?
