Putin obviously fancied himself as a superpower and was thumbing his nose to the west, saying "what are you gonna do about it"?

He finally got his answer!

Yet 40% of the world’s homeless are Americans... and they’ve never had to endure a global embargo!

Bullshit!

Not even the entire population of the USA will account for China's homeless!

NICOSIA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- An Italian-South Korean consortium will continue its drilling off the south shores of Cyprus after an exploratory drilling in the same area failed to produce natural gas, Cypriot Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis said on Friday.

The consortium, ENI-KOGAS, will send drilling ship to the south and into an area much closer to Egyptian natural gas wells. ENI-KOGAS has obtained concessions in three Cypriot fields and it has planned to make six drillings.

...Total starts to drill next year, in any case Egypt plans to buy all the gaz that Cyprus wants to sell; with the quantity existing, already plans are being developed for a pipeline.

It would look rather strange if everywhere they drilled they had a "result" of a find. It just makes the positives look stronger, that's all.

For sure the petrodollar is still being used politically to harm perceived enemies - but they also harm the wrong people and Aberdeen ordinary folk are going to be having a pretty miserable few months. Cameron probably doesn't care if the Scots get a bit of a hammering at the moment, as a punishment for such a close referendum.

The sooner we move away from archaic over-dependence on carbon sources - the better!

(Anyway, Gas finds are more precious, nowadays, than Oil deposits, aren't they?)

How about the Aberdeen ordinary Folk of Ukraine?

If any country could wave a magic wand and have Fossil fuels everywhere they drilled they would do it. There is no Gas there, but they might find some in another spot.

look, Putin was getting adventurous. It's not the petrol dollar's fault.

But now, they are paying the price economically which was the whole point of the sanctions. But the US needed some help so in come the Saudis to flood the market. End result is a crumbling Russian economy.

Putin could be cooperative and enter into negotiations. Sanctions against Russia is not something we would like to be maintained forever.

Russia needed to be taken down a peg or 2.
