In the wake of the outrageous remarks and denials we've seen in the past couple of days, Şener Elcil of KTÖS (the CY Teachers union up there) calls for a joint demonstration.

Elcil also urged everyone to stop denying the past atrocities and face the truth with dignity and “accept the fact that everyone suffered during the war”. “Perpetrators of the terrible crimes, some of whom still lives among us and their likeminded supporters attack the ones who speak of the truth and calls everyone to face the past in order to build a better future” said Elcil. ..."

The demonstration will take place at 11.00 am on Saturday the 20th at the Ledra Street crossing-point in Nicosia.

lets see what kind of support we get from our groc friends on this one. if the past is anything to go by, we may have more than 10 this time.

Press up there reporting that today's demo across the barricades at Ledra St was disrupted by thugs dressed in police-uniforms, in the pay of the TA, who refused to allow a symbolic ribbon to be passed through the crossing-point.

Claims also that the pretend "foreign minister" , Nami of "trnc" was, in part, involved in the disruption.

"... Scuffles broke out between police and protestors at the Lokmaci crossing border during an event organised by the United Cyprus – Bicommunal Peace Initiative. Amongst the initiative was the KTOS Teachers Union. It is being claimed that KTOS General Secretary Sener Elcil was attacked and hit on the chest during the scuffles.

Police tried to prevent the demonstrators who wanted to form a human chain using ribbons. Meanwhile it is being claimed that Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami who happened to be at the Lokmaci crossing point, indicated, like the police, that the human chain would not be allowed at the crossing point. ... "

And Yeniduzen confirms...

"... “Çözüm Şimdi”, “Görüşmeler Şimdi” gibi pankartların da açıldığı etkinlikte Kıbrıslı Türkler ve Rumlar ellerini havada birleştirdi. Kurdeleyle birlikte güneyden kuzeye doğru yürüyüşe geçildikten sonra KKTC polisi eylemcilere, askeri ve kontrollü bölgede eylem yapılamayacağını söyledi. Eylemi düzenleyenlerle polis arasında sözlü tartışma, zaman zaman da gerginlik yaşandı. Olay sırasında Lefkoşa Polis Müdürü Barbaros Savaşçı’da ara bölgeye geldi.

Bu sırada ailesiyle Güney Kıbrıs’a geçmek üzere Lokmacı sınır kapısına gelen Dışişleri Bakanı Özdil Nami etkinliği düzenleyenlerden ve Lefkoşa Polis Müdürü Savaşçı’dan bilgi aldı. Nami de eylemcilerle konuşarak, “Lokmacı’nın geçiş noktası olduğunu ve burada eylem yapılamayacağını” belirtti. Bu arada eyleme katılanların bazıları Bakan Nami’ye tepki gösterdi. ..."

Thats a bit ironic Bill, they are singing Tliriotisa, given the Turks bombed the F out of it and now occupy it.

I can't understand why you bither with those MFs on the dark side. Their claim for peace is false and at what price to us.
