I'm sad to see Greek Cypriots trying yet again to obstruct the legitimate interests of Turkish Cypriots. It may be hard to see lands and hotels that were once Greek Cypriot owned being used for the benefit of others, but this trauma exists for thousands of Turkish Cypriots too. Yet you do not see Turkish Cypriots trying to prevent Greek Cypriots doing business on their former lands?
Your by yourself in thinking Greek Cypriots do not own the properties they had stolen from them...well, ask the ECHR....and the only reason TC do not prevent Greek Cypriots from advertising holidays on TC owned land in the south is because 95% of that TC land is used by GC refugees from the north and not much holidaying or commerical activity is done...that is why the GC have set up board to deal specifically with TC land in the south.
It is not commercially exploited to parasites such as the Orams.
Anyway, if a TC did take RoC to the ECHR (which I would love to see)...it would only pave way for people getting their legitimate properties and homes back...something which Turkey does not want to see happening.
Until there is a fair and permanent settlement, it is unreal and unfair to stop people trying to progress their lives - especially when the other side is benefitting (and has been for years) from doing exactly the same with our land.
See above. Besides, most TC left the south on their own accord or were pesuaded to do so (or be shot) by the TMT.
Larnaca airport is built on Turkish Cypriot land and 103 villages were ethnically cleansed of their Turkish Cypriot occupants between 1963-1974, including the entire village of Vroisha (at foot of Troodos mountains) in 1964 (which rebuts the myth that all of Cyprus' problems started in 1974).
You dont happend to come from the bullshit site of ATCA do you? 'Ethnically cleansed'? If you KNOW what that term means...then you will UNDERSTAND that real ethnic cleansing (the act to cleanse an area of a particular ethnicity) happened in 1974. Before then, there were intercommunal clashes and about the same number of GC and TC died.
There are numerous other examples of our trauma, which are ignored by most Greek Cypriots who only see their pain and loss, not their own handywork which culminated in their own tragic fate - splitting up the island was a necessary evil to prevent Turkish Cypriots suffering any more abuse from Greeks. Sadly Turkey was only able to stop the physical terror. The economic, political and cultural embargoes against Turkish Cypriots continue unabated since Dec 1963.
You will see many Greek Cypriot admit to their problems and crimes (like EOKA B)...what you will not see is Turkish Cypriots doing the same. Turkey has been unleashing terror for the last 31 years by commiting REAL ethnic cleansing and stopping Greek and Maronite Cypriots (do you know who Maronites are? not many TC do) from their ancestrol home. The only people preventing TC from doing international business from the north is Turkey...TC have many rights to do business in the legitimate and free areas of Cyprus.
Your petition and similar actions will only serve to further alienate the two sides. It will demonstrate Greek Cypriots cannot be trusted, they still want to dominate and their mentality continues to be "my island, my rights rule; I can advertise my tourism, Turkish Cypriots shouldn't be allowed. To hell with their pain, past or present." Hardly the way forward to reuniting the island????
You must be from ATCA lol. What you want to advertise is the exploitation of land owned by GC refugees...why should we stand for this? We have every right to lobby against this and lobby for our human rights until justice is done. There is no peace in Cyprus right now...only a cease-fire....so get the idea of this stupid phrase 'Turkish Peace Intervention' out of your mind.
We have all suffered and we all have to move on. Cyprus is the common homeland of both Cypriot peoples, Greek and Turkish, and we are all entitled to the same rights and opportunities. If our ads are banned, so should yours. Better that both are allowed. And when the two sides finally settle their differences (the onus being on sooner rather than later) all those who have suffered will be compensated.
So, if you care about equality for all in Cyprus, and for a fair and free island, then please do not sign this petition.
Peace.
Unless you want to see people's homes and history exploited by parasites such as the Orams, whose acts also make it trickier for justice and repatriation of refugees, then sign this petition.
