How can this happen? How can Putin waltz into Ankara, scribble his name on a few sheets of paper, and abscond with a key US ally right under Washington’s nose? Isn’t there anyone at the White House who’s smart enough to anticipate a scenario like this or have they all been replaced with warmongering ding-dongs like Susan Rice and Samantha Powers?

I searched everywhere to find a report about the visit in Tuesday’s copy of Phil, the most blindly devoted child of Mother Russia, but there was nothing, the paper deciding its readers did not need to know about it, especially given its editorial writers’ passionate pleas to the government in the last month to strengthen relations with Moscow.

our cousins south of the green line were not expecting this. its a bit of a wake up call for them. i now wonder what will america have to do to court the tergs back again. perhaps they will offer all of cyprus and any gas rights she has.

as corrupt as putin may be, he is democratically elected and the europeans have no problem with trading with him. some truths hurt. they act like salt on wounds. in the long run they are good for repair of the wounds for the benefit of all.

It's far from a done deal according to the Russians themselves. I understand the pipeline through Bulgaria hit problems because it needed to comply with EU regulations, the same would apply a the pipeline routed through Greece I suppose.
