Genesis 22 New International Version (NIV)
Abraham Tested

22 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

This particular story is taken (word for word) from the pages of the Holy Bible placed by The Gideon Society in various Hotels.

The fact that it is in anyone's possession is an indication that the possessor has disobeyed the first request inside the book which clearly states "THIS BOOK IS FOR THE USE OF SUCCESSIVE READERS, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT AWAY". (Possibly a clever enticement to do so).

I am in Hotel accommodation at the moment and just by chance (or divine intervention) I read through Genesis 22 : Vs 1 to 19.

The story is NOT one which should be associated with cruelty, it is a testing of faith and obedience twixt Abraham and the Almighty.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his Son in order to prove his obedience to God, he did not have to and the Lord blessed him for his readiness to do his bidding and revealed that it was never his plan to make Abraham perform the deed, by supplying a ram.

This story foretells the rising of the Jews, had Abraham refused to comply with the Lord's command, there would probably be a little less friction around the Middle East and far less anti-semitism, even Adolf Hitler might not have been such a nasty chap after all.

So, if you MUST blame someone for all the strife about these days, blame Abraham.

And all on account of mankind's disobedience to their faith, whichever one of many they may choose.

Yes of course. The world is aflame with cutthroat fundamentalist Atheists trying to set up an Atheistic Caliphate!

A Caliphate would hardly be Atheistic.

You know what I mean. There are not many Atheists besieging towns and cutting throats based on their beliefs.

But that's OK because we are taking care of them. I grant that it will take time, but phase 1 is to cut off their funding and that is working quite well. Then we will send them to their creator! We are doing God's work!

Can we get some frequent flyer points in the bank for heaven?

You missed the best part Tim…

Incest seems to have been commonplace when things got started.

ie: Adam had two sons, one of which was killed by the other and we later hear that the surviving son (the murderer) had himself a wife and children… well the only other female available on the planet was his mom!
