Clueless on Amdocs, Cyprus

Postby Anumeha » Wed Dec 07, 2005 8:01 am

Someone please enlighten me with information on Amdocs, Cyprus - its work atmosphere, skills required in its main work area, location of its office in Limassol, compensation at its entry level etc etc etc... And, would you join Amdocs-Cyprus if you were me, a software engineer in India??? Your opinion is valuable!!

From what I understand, there are alot of Indians working at Amdocs (mentioning that because I see you are from India). There is a good working atmosphere there and its located by the port in a nice office block owned by Francoudis and Stephanou. Pay is quite good for Cyprus but you are expected to work extremely hard to warrant it.

I cant tell you what skills are required or anything else as I'm just going by what I have been told!

From what I hear Amdocs is a very good company. They pay good, their offices are good, I believe they have some villas that their employees can use for vacations etc. Since they are at an office block by Francoudis and Stephanou I am guessing they should have super fast internet there.

As Hazza said there are many Indians and other foreigners working there, so it will be a good atmosphere for you.

I don't know if it is company policy but recently a lot of people were laid of from what I know. If they are hiring new ones again then maybe thats how they do it. What I hear is that they are asking from people to resign instead of firing them.

Hi, I am working myself in amdocs.....It is a nice company.....ofcourse the salary is less as compared to US...If a person gets package near to 5-8 lacs per annum in india, its better in india.Layoffs happen if u perform too low.ratings are relative in the teams.Company policies are nice, u may get good client side experience if u get good project......If you are married and ur wife is also recruited for here, its heaven. If u r single then u can save upto 4 lakhs per annum after a good life.To get a nice girl in cyprus is difficult.Indian girls who come here are married most of the times.Very less cypriot gals are comfortable in english, so u may need to learn greek.Even then the people cant differentiate you from other asians here (other countries like SL, BNG) as most of the indians look alike to them, so people may take u as a menial job worker rather than software engineer. And it is obvious that if this misunderstanding is there, you will feel that behaviour is not good. Most of the asians here have come illegaly too....

Hi Anumeha and Pankaj, I can feel your concerns. I too had the same sort of concerns before coming here about 7 months back. About Amdocs Cyprus, I can tell u that it is really good here. Amdocs India is definitely bigger and has better growth but here you can have good start of career with a good pay. In the company, almost half of the employees are Indians and about 30-35% Romanians and rest Cypriots n others. You will get Indian food in the company. So that is not a problem. I don't say everything is rosy here. As sometimes you will feel lonely away in market or shops. Cypriots are good, they talk well and are generally friendly. Haan as mentioned above, they most of the times will mistake u for BD or SL. That is ironical as most of the Indians working in Amdocs are well-paid and if not, more then at least at par with Cypriots n others monetarily. But don't worry, it is always better to have experience of other country and Cyprus is definitely a place to be in.Someday here too as other countries are realising, they too will start acknowleding the growing influence of India.
