SILVER LINING FROM DAVUT

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

SILVER LINING FROM DAVUT

Postby Nikitas » Wed Oct 22, 2014 1:17 pm

Davut today, October 22 2014 justified the illegal search by the Barbaros in the Cypriot EEZ. His ratioale is interesting:

Turkey has a agreement with TRNC to search the Cypriot EEZ, therefore it is searching directly to the south of the island, as far away from the TRNC as is geographically possible.

It is fortunate that this statement comes at this point in the negotiation process, because it proves what would be happening to the WHOLE of Cyprus as a result of any agreeent that Turkey and the TC constituent state would sign giving rights over the WHOLE island. We now know what they mean by "two distinct nationalities, two states, two religions", they mean that one of those two has the right to stick their hands in the others' pockets.

We can only imagine what would be happening if we had accepted the Avnan plan. And we defiitely know what traps lie ahead concealed in the "give and take:" phase of the talks when they restart. It is going to be more take than give. Get ready.

But he went on to make one of the most dangerous statements Turkey's ever made.

"If the GC's consider the South as their territory because they control the south and we the north then we should be discussing a 2 state solution with them."

Can one of our idiots please call his bluff on this????

The two state solution is one of Turkey's great smokescreens. The do NOT want a two state solution. Ecevit stated it clearly in several interviews when he was prime minister and explained the reasons for that policy, which is still active.

The first side to cry foul if the RoC tomorrow recognises the TRNC and officialises ceding part of its territory to it would be Turkey. The reason is simple. A totally independent RoC, even with territory loss, would be able to enter into treaties and defence arrangements with any nation it choses. Its territory would have to be treated as inviolate and free of any "Turkish Cypriot equal or equitable" interests. Turkey is not about to let go the leverage it thinks it has over the whole island.

However, if there is gas or oil in any serious quantities there are major players entering the scene because their interest is legitimised by RoC's status as an EU member. Turkey is painting itself into another impasse with its unillateral bullshit policy and it is inviting powerful adversaries into what it thinks is its sphere of influence. Note how strenuously Davut underlined Turkey's status as the largest nation in the area. Nothing is stated unless there is a reason in international politics. There is no way the Europeans are going to relinquish even indirect control over the gas reserves to Davut and his ilk no matter how large he thinks Turkey is.

As for the European, they are only going to reiterate that to become an EU member a nation must sign the Law of the Sea convention and accept the jurisdiction of the International Court in the Hague. Which is the European way of saying fuck off.
