well i ll tell. you. its true i also didnt like him. even though he is working a lot with communitologists , he is still kind of... lets say pikris, tatsizis...:) just like katsouridis with the only difference that katsouridis never explodes (which imo makes him even more meen) while nick throws tassakia to those they disagree with him :)

now , leaving the jokes behind. i started admirring nick, after the referendum. and this has nothing to do with whether that action he took was right or wrong. at the time i was also not sure about that. i started appreciating him, bc he had the guts, to support sth that was clearly against his political interests. knowing that dysi was created (among other things), from big fat nationalistic talk, putting the country over his party was a brave act (despite the fact that you disagree with the act). taking an action kowing already from before that it will cost him votes, and still going for it just because in his opinion is right, is a characteristic that we need to have more in our politicians.

sth that no akel leadership, ever in its history hat. take a decision and suffer the concequences. it always prefer kind that kind of "neutrality" that would have brought the minimum loss to "the party"

I was also puzzled as to why Anastasiades supported the Annan plan. I think it is because Kleredes helped to prepare the Annan plan. They didn't want to admit that their policies in the Cyprus problem were not successful. Maybe some others reasons also. I just don't trust this person because of his actions in other things. If he was different then maybe more people would believe that he supported the Annan plan because he believed it was a good solution.

why didnt he follow the eays way of prodromou, ioanidis, sylouris kai ta alla paidia ? they were also voting for clerides, plus they never said that they made a wrong decision, but thats another theme...which cypriot politician ever admited a mistake?

I think some of those supported Markides, didn't they? One other speculation is that after the agreement between DIKO-AKEL-EDEK Anastasiades saw that he can not win any elections anymore if things stay the same. So supporting the Annan plan would make him more likable to the TCs and if Annan plan was accepted it would be easier for him to collaborate with TCs and win power. This is just a theory but I don't trust this man. I am afraid that his motives were not as pure as you think.

how could he cooperate with the tc to win elections re soto? the elections would have been separate...
more likable ok..but to vote him, is kind of difficult

having the three together ofcource is difficult for dysi to regain power... but such cooperations usually fall apart. which such cooperation after 74 lasted more than 5 years? this has perhaps chances to last one more... but sooner or later it will collapse. for those who believe that pap is not willing to enter negotiations...sooner. for those they believe he is working for the benefit of cyprus...the later

but in any case, why would dysi like to have all the three against it, and get the label of traitors for a second time?

as for those who supported markides, and since markides was in favor of AP you can understand on what critiria they were choosing their candidate

cypezokyli, I doubt Anastasiades cares much about Cyprus.
Yesterday he said that the borders of RoC are at the green line. Who did he represent when he said that? The Cypriots? The majority of people in his party? NO. He represented those that he always represented: The British and American interests.

Beyond that he knows that there are some blind fanatics and people that depend on his "rousfeti" that will keep voting for him.

As Sotos said he is fake from tip to toe.

I heard this statement on the radio also. What he said is: "της σημερινής Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας που τα σύνορά της εκτείνονται μόνο στην Πράσινη Γραμμή και το Λήδρα Πάλας". http://www.haravgi.com.cy/15_12_2005/1/000.html

i believe that anastasiadis could have said a big stupitidy.
i am not here to support him if he said and meant sth like that.

but still sotos thats not the whole thing of what he said. just a part of it
allow me not to trust the media (for reasons i posted in another thread) unless i read the whole thing he said.
if you view it grammatically this sentence you just posted and is found in haravgi, misses a first part

Of course Anastasiades could have said something stupid but if you compare his stupidity level to the level of some others this man is still wise!
