I agree if this is something that could be done in both communities. Also I am sure the occupation regime would never accept such thing. The only "unification" steps they make are the ones that have financial benefits to them and nothing beyond that.
So if our government would want to score some "points" in the same way the Turkey is trying to do recently they could propose this suggestion to the other side.

As aleways we are going off path a little.I wanted to see what the general consensus is on the subject.Yes for this reason or no for this reason.I will be grateful if someone more adept with computers would add a poll on the subject.

I think it's a good thing. I myself am trying to learn Greek, however I understand almost nothing when people are speaking with Cypriot accents.

We have an interesting situation. Greek Cypriots who learn Turkish are speaking mainland Turkish and Turkish Cypriots are starting to speak mainland Greek. I think it's important that people are at least taught to understand the local accents.

At the moment a lot of TCs are learning Greek. There is an increased interest among GCs for learning Turkish as well, but overall the demand is lower. After a solution, though, the demand will probably increase among the GCs as well, with improving economic relations with Turkey.

perhaps besides typing against each other we learn something at the same time.

Though the greek cypriots dialect,as i suppose the turkish cypriot one are very rich dialects, unfortunately they cannot be tought as they have no grammar structure. The only way to learn it is by listening, especially old village folk. My aunt who died at 90, about 15 years ago, spoke a very heavy paphian accent, which when i grew older and looked into it more, was almost homeric both in stracture as well as vocabulary used, enriched by turkish and latin words.When i married, and took my Nicosia bride to meet the family, she could hardly follow the old lady..))

good morning = günaydın (gunaydin, in case you can't view Turkish fonts)
good afternoon= tünaydın (however, it's almost never used! )
good evening= iyi akşamlar
good night= iyi geceler

With names, the stress is always at the last syllable.

Interesting..
I would also like to see either greek or turkish words used by both G/Cs and T/Cs

eg
ade..from hade
yiavashis..from yavas meaning a slow/lazy person
hema..from hem
etc etc

plus a lot of swear words that i dont like to mention here..)
