What is of slight interest is the lengths some will go to try and deny this simple truth and of more interest , why they are seemingly compelled to go to such lengths - like changing the definition of 'patriot' from one that is in every dictionary definition to a definition that exists in no dictionary at all, and giving comparisons that actually destroy their own argument like 'those Germans in East Germany under the GDR who wanted reunification of Germany and an end to the GDR were in fact GDR patriots'.

The only problem for you is that Cyprus is inhabited by an ethnic Greek majority and an ethnic Turkish minority.

The so called "independence" was enforced by foreign rule (UK) to maintain a weak micro-state status that would facilitate its manipulation and maintain military bases on the island.

Now tell us how many TCs want the removal of Turkish troops and settlers from Cyprus, return of all refugees to their land, removal of Turkish (and other) guarantees and a true unitary CYPRIOT state (therefore completely different than the one we had in 1960). I am all ears.

The above is totally off the topic I was discussing which was simple and straight forward and which you ignore here, though I do note elsewhere you have in essence said the same as me with your 'no Cypriot nationalists'.

Having lived through the EOKA era, I cant help wanting to share some of my experiences during those years. I don't wish to relate untrue evens but real life events as they took place. 1955 is almost 60 years ago, not many can recall true events, those of us old enough to recollect will soon depart, my self ....excluded

I need at least 3 responses to encourage me in revealing some real stories that occurred all those years ago.
No gimmicks and no untruths, just the plain truth.

I will borrow the knowledge of an ex-US president and say that you are a good Cypriot, erolz.

Some decades ago there was a country called "German Democratic Republic" which was formed by foreigners, not by the will of its people. Naturally they eventually united (enosis) with the rest of the Germans.

And those East Germans that fought for reunification were by definition GERMAN patriots. They were not both GDR patriots and German patriots, they were just German patriots. Thanks for once again reinforcing and underlining my very point. The very notion that they were GDR patriots is so clearly ridiculous.

In Cyprus there is nothing to reunify, errorl. Instead the occupied northern part of Cyprus needs to be liberated.

Therefore what's your point? :?

I am Greek and English is not my first language. Patriot is a word with a Greek root and I explained to you what it means in Greek. If in English the word can apply only to ethnic groups then nobody can be a "Cypriot patriot" because there is no such thing as a "Cypriot ethnicity".

Here is what wikipedia says:

Patriotism is, generally speaking, cultural attachment to one's homeland or devotion to one's country, although interpretations of the term vary with context, geography and political ideology. It is a set of concepts closely related to those of nationalism.

The English term patriot is first attested in the Elizabethan era, via Middle French from Late Latin (6th century) patriota "countryman", ultimately from Greek πατριώτης (patriōtēs) "countryman", from πατρίς (patris), "fatherland".

...the numbers don't count kurupetos, the fact remains that there are Cypriots who respect the fact that there is an overwhelming majority of the population that is Grecophone, it should not matter either, if they are Turcophone, or English, one of three languages the Government uses Officially, Cypriots are Cypriots. if there is a Republic of Cyprus it is for Cypriots, and not for "Greeks". i support a Unitary State, and i understand the meaning of Bicommunal, and Bizonal, i suggest that if "Greeks" want a Greek voice they can have one; where is the Greek Constituency?

kurupetos, it is very honourable what you say, but coming from you, i know somehow you will twist it to favour your identity, as a "Greek". it is odd that you speak with such forcefulness, for Cyprus, because it is the "Greeks" who are to blame (indeed no different to the "Turks"). Cyprus exists, whether you like to fly a Greek Flag or not, and the Flag of Cyprus means something, thousands died for it to fly higher, they can be counted in the murdered and the missing.

...frankly kurupetos, Cyprus has had enough of "Greeks", as far as i'm concerned, it is "you" who is(are) the Problem; either the island torn in two, for "Greeks", and "Turks", or we are Cypriots because (more than Persons, we are Individuals) we defend each other.
