No nothing like Vietnam either. Vietnam was a proxy war against the Soviet Union at the time.
This is a war against some radicalized cutthroats which are becoming increasingly isolated, and without a means to support themselves because their infrastructure is being targetted and destroyed. Soon, they will have nowhere to go but hide in caves like Al Qaeda did in Afghanistan.
We have a right to prevent genocide. It doesn't take much to want to do some good and destroy these evil bastards. The US and its coalition is doing that. But the heavy lifting is going to have to come from the very countries effected by this evil. Iraq and the Kurds will be the spearhead. They will be joined by Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, UAE and Bahrain!
This is not an intervention into other countries. We are helping other countries like Iraq regain control of their country and our action has the full support of the Iraqi Givernment. Even Iran is happy to see coalition assist in defeating DAESH. Our presence in Syria is not to oppose the Assad Regime. It is NOT in our scope at least for now, mainly because it's probably better to have the devil you know rather than some crazy cuthroats.
