Let the USA and its allies see for itself the Turkish arrogance and recalcitrance.
Then, after its unsuccessful attempts to join NATO, the RoC could think outside the box and apply to join the ANZUS Treaty. This is a carbon copy of BATO and all ANZUS Treaty states are still obligated under Article 5. It is a treaty between Australia, NZ and USA. They are by default Associate Members of NATO as are NATO Treaty States in ANZUS. The RoC would have to attend all NATO summits as well as the ANZUS summits.
There are obligations. The RoC would be obliged to come to Australia's aid if it were attacked for whatever reason. Buckley's chance of that. It may need to attend to some annual exercises in Australia. It could send 20 or so OIK to train with the SAS. Australia would be obligated to attend the CNGs annual exercise. They will probably send some air support.
But it is a big stuff you to Turkey. It will also have access to Australian and US arms.
This sends the right signals to the EU and the NATO alliance. I for one, am sick and tired of being marginalized by Turkey.
Are there any Cypriot Politicians that can make some moves such as this? Let's exercise our sovereignty and give Turkey something to think about!
The greek south joined the Eu thinking it would bolster the credibility and send a signal to turkey However it has not had the desired affect. Politics used to make a difference to turkey especially the politics that the Europeans and the greeks have tried to use to disable turkey however the tables are turning. Turkey is now in a position to use her political clout against eu and that includes the greek south. You mention sovereignity . That was lost the day the greek south joined the eu . Is it not the greek south that everytime turkey exercises her muscles by flying her jets you then pipe up and say that turkey is threatening eu borders . Was not recently when president erdogan visited the turkish north that the greek south complained that this was a illegal entry to eu . if Eu TRUELY believes that the north is governed by your government then why can't this big strong eu army force the turkish army out of the north ?
