Seems that you two are ignorant of our history and the sequence of events. When the British took over from the Ottomans we were celebrating. We considered them as our Christian European friends that would show some respect to us... we even fought on their side in WWII believing their fake promises. If all they wanted was us to be their allies they could have very easily have that. But they didn't want us to be their allies. They saw us and Cyprus like objects to be exploited and they treated us in a very hostile way. And by the way ... it seems that they did something similar to Palestine. I don't know their history very good, but from what I read the British took the Arabs on their side making faking promises to them in order to take Palestine from the Ottomans. Then they stabbed Palestinians on the back, allowing 1000s of Jews to enter Palestine and then they gave Palestine to the Jews!

Sotos, why so preoccupied with Palestine, Cyprus is what we are talking about not Afghanistan or Iran, Cyprus.
The British Empire acted just as any other super power would have done. LOOKED AFTER THEIR OWN INTERESTS.

Let us forge closer alliances with nations that have POWER.

To forge an alliance we need common interests and both sides need to have something to gain from the alliance. The Anglo-Americans already have the SBAs, military facilities in Troodos etc... they STOLE everything they needed from Cyprus without giving anything in return. On top of that an alliance with Turkey is far more important to them.

The RoC's interests have never been more aligned to those of Israel.

Sotos, Cyprus is a tiny nation. It's interests should be security and defence. The US could have provided that for you and then some. One thing is for sure, Cyprus would not be partitioned ever if it were in NATO.

If you actually cooperated with the Yanks, they would have given you everything and anything you wanted or needed. If anyone attacked you, they would have gone to war (NATO Article 5).

Although I do not have a blanket-support approach to Israel's actions, I weigh this present situation up thus: which of the two countries/nations treats their own civilians better? Which of the two respect the human rights of their people? Which of the two regard equality of their women as central to their governance? Which of the two put forward the betterment of their citizens through education and acquisition of individual freedom?

Only through the total respect for their own people - first - can we then move forward and trust a foreign government. Trust them to not spread hatred because they do not practice hatred against their own people.

So, in this case, I wish the fairer, Israel, luck in securing its future for its people against an ocean of women-hating, individual-freedom suppressing, restrictive, brainwashed countries.

The Israelis are backwards peasants who deceive many by displaying American taxpayer’s money and technology as their own!

Of course one look at their “moral values” (or complete lack thereof) and you soon see what they’re really made of! For example, they will happily murder their foe’s women and children in cold blood let alone worry about women’s or children’s rights!

They will happily sacrifice some of their citizens so as to attack neighbors under false pretences and the list of their debauchery goes on and on…

American - Turkish relations were built during the cold war. This is no longer applicable.

Taking into account the current situation with Israel, ie the USA, I dont think that Turkey is as close to the USA as it once was during the cold war era.

Turkey will probably not have good relations with Turkey for decades because Turkey is a financial backer of Hamas along with Qatar.

So you can pretty much forget it. The Israeli's do what they want. they do not listen to the US. Many times, Obama and Netanyahu do not even talk. When these guys are together, it is said you can cut the air with a knife just like you would with Putin.

Furthermore, the RoC and Israel have significant Energy interests.

Palestinian militant organisation Hamas has rejected any extension of the three-day ceasefire in Gaza, which expired on Friday morning.

It said that Israel had failed to meet its demands, including the re-opening of Gaza Harbour to shipping.

Several rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel as the ceasefire ended at 08:00 local time (05:00 GMT). Israeli forces have not yet responded to the attacks.
