Cyprus has been under occupation since 1974!

A country that does this and forbids 180,000 citizens from their ancestral lands is beneath contempt and you would do the same if the UK was under occupation.

You can't have it both ways. It's ok for everyone else but you conveniently turn a blind eye to the dire situation in Cyprus.

So when does a country like Cyprus have a right to defend itself? If we were a much bigger country with a much larger and better equipped military similar to Israel, would we have the right to attack and wage a destructive war against Turkey? What do you think?

Do you believe Cyprus is going to achieve justice on the negotiating table without some extraordinary circumstances which could lead to some support from countries like the US? Why are Cyprus and innocent civilians of Cyprus being punished by an expansionist regime?

Must I remind you that Turkey refuses to negotiate and is continuously and maliciously changing the goalposts and holding the island to ransom. WE ARE AT WAR! A nation of 75 million is at war with a nation of 800,000. If Israel blows a few Turkish ships out of the water why would I even care?

Do you believe might is right?

No Paphitis, i dont think might is right. The situation Cyprus finds itself in today was because a bigger mightier group of people on the island decided that the smaller minority population should be annihilated and now are complaining because an even bigger mightier group intervened and stopped the bloodshed.

There is no war going on in Cyprus, there is a problem that needs to be sorted by reasonable people stating their sides case and coming to a solution, whatever that solution may be.

With people on either side filled with such venom as you seem to be filled with the problem will never be solved.

No Geoff, you are totally wrong !
6 years before the "mightier group" invaded Cyprus the number of T/Cs "annihilated "amounted to 3 as per RoC figures and 33 according to "TRNC" figures.
Turkeys barbaric invasion caused the death of more than 5000 G/Cs, I will not repeat the rest...

Turkey, a third world nation has no place in Cyprus, our island belongs to us, THE CYPRIOTS. Those that aspire to be Greeks or Turks have a choice. Piss off to their respective motherlands and let the Cypriot people live in peace as they did for generations.

The Cypriot people have been denied the very essence that democracy contains, the deniers were the occupiers, the British Imperialists. Divide and rule was their policy and they achieved part of this.

As Milti has said, you're extremely wrong.

The GCs DID NOT decide to annihilate the TCs and the Coup on the island had as its target predominately GCs who were Communist or supporters of Makarios. They had killed 104 GCs in less than 5 days. No TCs were killed up to the point where Turkey had invaded the island.

It provided Turkey with the excuse it needed to invade, however the occupation remains for 40 years now, and it does not look like they will ever leave. You might want to ask, if there are any reasonable people on the Turkish side? They do not appear to be at all interested in even negotiating and they are certainly not interested in negotiating a fair settlement (fact).

I must ask, you sound like your knowledge is based from Turkish propaganda. Perhaps you are a Brit living in the occupied areas. Have you bought property owned by an ethnically cleansed GC family?

There were 180,000 GCs who were ethnically cleansed from the occupied areas - a clear breach of international law and the Geneva Convention. This is a War Crime, of the highest order so similar to what the Serbian Militias attempted to do in Bosnia and caused such international outrage and NATO intervention. Why can't they return to their homes? Why were their properties dispossessed? Why do you seem to support these crimes, and dare to ask whether there are reasonable people on the GC side who need to fix this problem? Are there any reasonable people on the Turkish side interested in a solution? Did I hear you say NO?

And yes, we are at war - we have a mere ceasefire from 1974.

"Israel: Diplomacy Wins As Turkey Halts 'Freedom Flotilla' To Gaza "

It seems that common sense has prevailed and the likelihood of a Turkish-Israel confrontation avoided, for now !

Behind the scenes the USA must have exerted pressure on both Turkey and Israel and an agreement reached for aid to arrive in Gaza by air.
