Yes, it’s the national cockroach day when the likes of Sotos, Yialoser, Kurupet and others put on their white tunics and olive branches on their heads and flock amphitheatres to recite the famous ancient Greek poem which roughly translates to… “Up thy arse the Mycenaean cucumber goes!”

The GC population fought against the Junta and the millitary that sided with them. They then fought against the invaders from Turkey. This is reffered to as a black day for Cyprus. Enjoy your celebrations of the invasion.

At least half of the NG was under command of Greek Junta... not all of a sudden... there were always 2 factions in GC NG... like there were always pro-junta and pro-enosist interest groups and political factions in GC community... Actually, only the GC leftists fought against junta... and today... the Anastasiadis government only condemned the so-called invasion but not the fact of Greek junta and coup d'etat...

Wrong. The supporters of Makarios who were the majority were also against junta. Only a very small minority supported the junta among the people. In the army the soldiers were just following orders... like it happens with every coup everywhere!

in 1974 the whole of the ng was in the hands of the coupist. there was no resistance to the coupists. any soldier who resisted was shot. the only resistance existed in the police force who were very lightly armed and had no chance against the coupists and were pro magarios.

we really have to stop re-writing history to fit better the myths we create.

I don't think so! But in any case ... why should WE give so much weight to your EXCUSE? The coup was just as an excuse to do what you wanted to do ALL ALONG. In and on itself the coup was hardly the worst thing that happened to Cyprus when you compare it to the genocides, ethnic cleansing and oppression that Cyprus suffered from the Turks.

And in the coups in Turkey it was different? Your generals were asking the soldiers to decide if they wanted to fight in favor or against the coups?
