Thanks for the link.

My next appointment is on July 31st and I will then decide on the available options.

"Around 250,000 are currently living with the disease, with symptoms including frequent trips to the toilet, pain during sex and reduced flow of urine."

None of the above symptoms affected me, but not all show any symptoms.

Such a tough call miltiades, really sad to hear of your diagnosis.

Had you been tested for pc before? Have you any idea the time it took to develop?

Probably a good idea to watch initially, but don't take any risks, as the side effects of treatment pale in significance to the possibility of it spreading imho. At least with treatment you'll have a peace of mind, and there are ways to deal with the side effects.

Wishing you all the best.

...is it the treatment that increases (as in a bad outcome) the risk of it spreading; this is the question which haunts me.

Thank you for your wishes.

As a diabetic I have blood tests at least 3 times a year. My last blood test way back in April/May for the first time showed an increase of the PSA, it had risen to 5.85 where previous test had it as 2.8- 3.
I have not experienced any symptoms normally associated with an enlarged prostate.

On having a biopsy about 4 weeks ago my Gleason score was 4+3=7 , not the most aggressive and not the slowest growing either.
Out of 12 cores taken 2 were found to have cancer.

I have carried out much research and will decide possibly on an operation after I see the consultant at the end of this month.

Sorry to bring this back again, I feel that my own experience might be of some help to others facing the same problem.

I had my second appointment, this time with a surgeon, and after extensive research I had more or less decided to opt for the operation, Radical Prostadectomy, the removal of the prostate. I considered radiotherapy but in view of the lengthy treatment, about 6 to 8 weeks with daily visits to the hospital, and also the after effects being almost the same os those following an operation.

The surgeon, a young English man in his mid forties impressed me and gave me the confidence needed in order to make my mind up. The consultation lasted about 90 minutes and he assured me that he would be carrying out the robotic operation. Jokingly I asked him if he ever ....lost anyone, No he replied, good I said keep it up, well he said, you wont be able to ...keep it up for some 2 to 3 months

Due to go in August 18th.

ps.would the psycho refrain from making any nasty comments :

Thanks Jerry
As I said earlier common symptoms are not always evident.
In my case I had no symptoms at all, everything worked just normal.

Had I not been a diabetic who had blood tests regularly I would never have known.

The surgeon told me I would need a month ....off work, I will ask the boss I said, is he understanding he asked, no I replied he is a ...Plonker !!!

This is the disadvantage of being your own boss, I suppose, subject to how I feel, I would be back at work a day or two later. My other third now in Cyprus wants to come here and ....look after me, NO NO NO I said, I'm ok, Lenny will take good care of me - my dog-

Milti you need to be very careful about modern surgery that does not appear too invasive. We used to have big scars when they hacked lumps out of us but not so today. When I had surgery some years ago I had no external incisions and felt hardly any discomfort. I was told to take things very easy for some weeks, no lifting or stretching etc. I felt fine so after a couple of days I ignored the advice and was soon back in hospital for repair work. You feel quite normal but you are not inside, the internal wounds need time to heal.

Your sense of humour will see you through the worst, Milty. But like Jerry said, don't underestimate the length of time your body (physical and mental) will need to adjust and heal.

Now you have made your mind up on the course of action - good luck and enjoy getting in touch with your more ...... feminine side! :D

Thank you S for your kind wishes. Indeed one needs a good sense of humour in order to cope with life's tribulations.

At the young and ...tender age of 68 I have faced , and still face many difficult events but life has to go on.
