Good luck and God bless you, I hope all goes well.

Thanks Jerry, do you recall what your PSA as well as the Gleason score was ?
You can PM me, I have some questions to ask
Thanks

Milti, only the doctors can guide you through to the best options for therapy. Don't waste your time asking opinions from laypersons.

I agree, but the individual concerned must seek options that are best suited for his condition. People who have gone through this can answer a lot of questions based on their own circumstances.

Hello Milti - I am really sad to hear that you're going through this turmoil. Stay strong - as you know it's all about buying time and you have that on your side with this condition. As you said, if men live long enough then all will show signs of prostate cancer. It's there in many, ticking away, silently. But the older you are when it surfaces then the slower it grows. At 68 years old, I should imagine you have a good decade and more before major problems (as you can guess from your similarly-aged GP friend who chose surveillance/monitoring). If you get it removed, you can forget about it altogether - and face each obstacle one at a time. If the worst came to the worst, are you really that concerned about incontinence? It's unlikely to be a problem after surgery in this day and age.

Less than a week ago, I lost my best friend, soul-mate, to lymphoma. She was so stoical, soldiered on ignoring her pain until nothing could be done. God doesn't answer prayers to atheists so it's all my own fault ...

Fight this, Milti mou!

Thank you gorgeous for a lovely post. Im having a bone scan soon in order to confirm the MRI and biopsy results that the cancer is localized in the prostate, then I will weigh up my options and do what I consider to be the best, following the extensive research I have been carrying out.

Incontinence and may I say... impotence, being a hot Cypriot male, are of concern but will overcome both, I'm sure of that.
Allow me to give you 3 xxx !!!

Sotos wrote:Sorry to hear this milti. Maybe it would be better to just see a few more doctors for opinions? They see 100s of patients and are better able to evaluate your situation. How old are you? I guess you read this already:

For men younger than 65 who have early-stage cancer (stages I and II, also called localized prostate cancer), those who had surgery lived longer than those who used active surveillance. But for men older than 65 with early-stage cancer, those who chose surgery lived just as long as men who chose other treatments, including active surveillance.

Thank you Sotos, I have obviously read a great deal about the condition.
My main concern are the likely after affects following either a removal or radiotherapy.
How long I have left although naturally important is not my primary consideration.

I have talked to a number of older men, I'm 68 by the way, some have had minimal after affects, some continuing and some decided on surveillance like my old GP who ten years ago took the surveillance option, he is 74 now.

The dreaded after affect for me is incontinence, less important impotence.

It is understandable to worry about side effects... you can live with this cancer for a long long time and given your age you will probably die from something irrelevant before this becomes a real problem! BUT the problem is that you KNOW about it because ignorance would probably be a bliss in this case! Now you know so if you choose surveillance option you will keep worrying. You will be relieved every time they check you and they say you are doing OK and then when the next time to be tested will be approaching you will be worrying again ... and this will go on forever... will you be able to get used to it?

Dear Milti

The Guarniad (sic) reports on a possible Cure, which news item I pass on as read and without responsibility.

Silent, not deadly; how farts cure diseases
A recent study from the University of Exeter has been reported as showing that smelling farts can cure cancer, as well as many other diseases. Although the study itself doesn’t actually say this at any point, if farts do have healing powers it would have numerous wide-reaching implications

As for GR - I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

Milti,

there would be associations and support groups for people going through the same thing made by people who have gone through this or are going through this.

These are the best networks to get advice from, as well as your doctors.

I know that it is very common but fortunately when they get it early it doesn't seem to be a huge problem especially with the advances in medicine in this day and age.
