Areeba, the island’s alternative mobile service provider has launched its Areeba Mobile Data Card allowing users mobility and access to the Internet at the fastest speed available.
Geared mostly at notebook users, the areeba mobile data card, retailing at CYP 199 plus VAT slots directly into notebooks, giving customers access to email and the Internet.
“Customers get the freedom and mobility to take their notebooks and have access to fast connections, including 3G speeds of up to 384kbps,” said Georges Dick, Head of Marketing at Areeba.
The Areeba Mobile Data Card is a combination card, that works with both 3G and GPRS network. The card attaches itself to the strongest network signal available, but users have the option to restrict coverage to only where areeba signal is strong to escape roaming charges.
Andry Antoniou-Zissimou, Areeba Marketing Coordinator said all customers will have the option to choose the plan most suitable to them and according to their data usage.
The price ranges from a minimum of CYP 21 per month for the Areeba 1600 plan to CYP 29 per month for the other packages for access through GPRS at speeds of 56kbps, while 3G subscribers are charged the discounted rate of CYP 29 until end of February, after which the rate is increased to CYP 39 for speeds of up to 384kbps.
Areeba Data
Pay monthly customers who purchase the Areeba Mobile Data Card will have the option of a new service plan called Areeba Data, which is
designed especially for data, with no monthly fee or inclusive minutes/SMS. Instead customers choose to pay for data per kb or to sign up to GPRS Unlimited or 3G Unlimited for a fixed monthly fee of either CYP 29 or CYP 39 per month (also discounted at CYP 29 until Feb ‘06) respectively.
Any local voice calls made will be charged at standard pay monthly out of bundle rates, which at peak hours from areeba to Cytamobile costs 3.2 cent per minute.
International roaming is not yet available but will be introduced soon, said Georges Dick, adding that GPRS and 3G roaming is not very common and is slowly being introduced in other countries.
Asked to give price comparisons with similar services currently offer in other countries, Andry Antoniou-Zissimou said Vodafone is currently offering its 3G mobile card service at GBP 53 per month or CYP 48 with the lowest package costing GBP 200 allowing customers only 5MB of downloads, whereas Areeba’s lowest package costing CYP 21 per month gives unlimited downloads, plus the CYP 199 card cost.
T-Mobile in the UK meanwhile is charging GBP 77 per month for 1GB data but offering the card at GBP 25.
Not bad. If you don't have ADSL coverage in your area check to see if you have 3G coverage. If you have then with Areeba 3G you can have broadband internet! The bad news are that the 3G coverage is limited to the cities for now
