You see teams like Italy, Germany, Holland and a few others can relax for 80-90 minutes if they choose to do so and let you fantasize that you’ve got the draw in your pocket and then they get the nod from their manager and do 2-3 runs in the last 5 minutes or during extra time and score a couple of goals!
I recall some years ago when Italy and Cyprus were at 1-1 for a Euro qualifier and we hit crossbar twice at 89” and 90” and then at like 93” they dashed to the other side of the pitch and pulled a winner!
Yup… get used to that feeling Paphitis because Australia has a looooong way to go before they realize what football is all about.
I know what you are saying GR but if you sort of know you are not really in with a chance to win the cup then heart is all you can give it. If not, then don't go at all. That is the only way underdogs can sometimes pull it out of the hat. Makes for great viewing.
Do you really think Cyprus could pull off something like this?
Australia and Holland played 3 times before today. They never beat the Aussies EVER!
You really need to learn to differentiate friendlies from proper games. The one game that counted and you got battered
Australia beat Holland in the Confederations Cup. In fact, they have beaten a lot of teams in the Confederations Cup such as Brazil and Germany.
These are no friendlies!
