If you remember? We had this discussion years ago DT. The numbers have never been verified. It was a hook for Billy boy and Pyro spoiled the party. Just having fun with that moron. Makarios says the numbers were large. Years ago no one would even admit to one.

A friendly partition promoted as a novel idea!!! What do these mainland Greek journalists (my colleagues by the way) think BBF is all about. BBF is partition, by another, politically correct name. Anyone who thinks it is not needs to have his head examined.

Both "motherlands" and others favor BBF because by definition it would prevent double union. Outright partition with two REALLY independent countries cannot prevent union of one or both states with another state. Turkey's nightmare is to have the south unite with Greece. Not my idea, it was stated by Bulent Ecevit in a BBC interview- his objection was that double union would make Greece a Middle Eastern power and as a member of the EU that would increase its itnernational influence at the expense of Turkey.

And that seems to preclude any dreams of outright partition. And we come full circle to the Turkish bind. They do not want a unitary state, they do not want outright partition, they do not want a federation, they do not want confederation, they reject double union. So far we know what they do NOT want, we have still to hear what they officially want, unless you count that nonsensical "the problem was solved in 1974" on which they renege by rejecting partition.

The Greeks are playing a more sophisticated game in this one. As oil and gas are likely to be discovered in the south of Crete and the Ionian islands, areas that Turkey cannot dispute, (this was clearly stated by the US a few years back when they called the Gavdos claim "stupid nonsense"), the international outlook will favor Greece and the RoC. The occupation of land in the north will be irrelevant at best.

The one likely source of conflict will be the "new minority" of TCs who will move south. Which is OK, for as long as they have claims south, we retain the claims in the north.

Pyro, see post before yours. then go back and see all the comments on the original years ago. I have been through this before. It is a reminder that you guys will accept nothing. You have always blamed Turkey for all the killings and that simply is not true. The numbers are many said Makarios. Maybe you will now accept three it's progress I suppose. Why not have a go at my dad again. I have two sisters left out of three. You want to make rude remarks about them too? How about my mum? You see yourself as an educated man but have been rude from your very first post. You are an animal. There are rules on this forum and generally on the net about remarks like that. For a reason. If they weren't such animals my friend they would discuss this and accept what you are saying. They won't even accept I held my dad's hand when just two and I remember it. Educated men...... My arse. As their church has said... They would die before even accepting water from us. Let alone feel anything for children suffering in enclaves. I went to see the Malta experience while on holiday. It shows the full history of Malta and how many peoples have attacked and killed Maltese people in the past. It was a good. We then had a tour of the hospital from hundreds of years ago that serve them until the first and second world wars. Our tour lady guide was excellent but..... Her last words were " we expected the Turks to come back after we defeated them. They didn't. If they had, I would be talking to you as a Muslim right now". She spat those words out like they were poison. Now, considering how many people attacked maimed and killed and how the Germans bombed the hell out of them in WW2, why pick on the Turks. I pulled her up at the end and said that they were attacked by the ottomans not Turks. The Turks were the lowest and most oppressed people of the empire. The word Turk was derogatory. There was a glimmer of acceptance in her eyes and then she pointed the way out. I was not rude at all by the way. What the hell have we done that is so wrong since the ottomans. I know the Brits had empire issues and saw the ottoman as a threat but since then it is us that has been attacked and killed since we took the term Turk and made it our own, thanks to Ataturk.
